Does it matter? Tier 2 is still going to see the comp crowd anyway. Play what you enjoy, who cares what tier you are?

Which surprises me because apparently I am a "scrub l2p problem stop using LRM's you noob lol you call the atlas and the shadowcat a good mech haha you use a stalker without using more then 2 large lasers just give up you pleb wtf is that you use a catapult that isn't the K2 or jester?" player that many angry forum warriors tried to bang into my head.
I am very comfortable where I am and I do not intend to push for the 'glorious T1" as T3 would mean faster wait times for matches and I would not be looked at as a 'very good player' or 'a very bad player' and I am pretty middle-ground.
It also means I may see good skilled newer players and stuff- which I do enjoy because if there isn't 1 thing I enjoy the most about this game is that I love helping new players and give them all those tips that we all wished we got at the start- for eg "do not buy the slowest Standard engine before getting 5 more engines until you get the one you want for that mech just because it is cheaper, save and get the one you want or you will regret it" "do not get into lights or assaults unless you are very keen on it, these are harder for a new player then say a medium or heavy mech" and tips on how to use cadet bonus , omnimech vs battlemech, etc... yay
Edit:, it says it's based on match score but personally it feels like it's W/L and being a pugger I've got a bad lossing streak that knocked me to quite a low T3. I almost want to make it dip to T4 just so I can master my black knight fast and then start hitting people hard with it in T3... unbasiced mechs are always so grindy...

I think it does the PSR / tier the highest end person on your group. It also lets acceptions if it takes to long as group cue is more harder to handle for the MM as it is more like a puzzle.

11:21 PaulInouye: roughly it will take about 2500+ games to climb to tier 2 for example.. if you have a decent w/l
11:22 PaulInouye: if you magically win every game you play with high match score... you might get there in 1000 games.
So PSR takes a lot of games to settle. I'm T2 halfway to T1 and i don't have anywhere close to 2500 matches since january.
I only have 2600 matches since stat reset, which was march 2014.
That being said, T1 seems to be pretty open. Doesn't seem too hard to raise your PSR by simply playing a lot (while performing above average). On the other hand i have read that Trevelyas (from EMP) is Tier3 with a ~ 8 k/dr and ~8 W/L because he didn't play enough matches since January.
So the number of your matches is probably a big deciding factor when it comes to your Tier.

I got there with no meta builds.
But the point is everyone agree on is that T1 is much much more populated then everyone would have thought!
Not that i care, but it's remarkable funny!

Just a little further to go and I'll be wrecking up the Steering-Wheel Underhive!
How did I do it?! - I hear you ask...
Well, Trial Mechs, Grinding every single match plus a bit of Leroy Jenkins.. I can't be far off now, I'll tell y'all what it's like and then I'll climb back up to the higher tiers again.
See you soon Sarlic!

I'm at T2 with about 1050 total matches shown on my profile and didn't even win 2/3 of those, so I'm pretty sure these numbers he gave do not match up with what they actually implemented
... either that or the profile page is even more broken than I thought

I can vouch for this having taken the entire year off and starting at ground zero in august when PSR was released (or whenever that was since my PSR was noob starting tier having basically zero matches all year long). It takes a long time to raise it up--especially running non-comp 'mechs.

Number of matches has got to be the biggest factor, since I'm nearly complete with Tier4 and my kdr is only slightly higher than 1, and my w/l is less than 1. Hooray for pugging over 4,000 matches.

Take a break from being a masochist and try JM6-DD (3xUAC5) or BLR-1S (4xLPL), before they get nerfed. They both feel like Hellbringer&Timber.
PS. There's a strong correlation between Tier 1 and a current FOTM mech displayed on the screenshot.
If I was to play 1500 matches in the same mech using the same optimal build, I would go insane. Even it it was WVR-6K.

I wasn't surprised to see this since I mostly pug or do CW. And my top five mechs played are Pretty Baby (149 matches), Death's Knell (142), DWF-Prime (120), AWS-9M (111), and MLX-B (98); with The Boar's Head (89), Ember (86), and Huginn (74) not too far behind. I'm curious to see if we'll ever see CW stats. I'm sure taking weapons with less than ~270 M Effective range a little too often and playing unsober alot doesn't raise that score much either.
And I've also been playing Poke'Mech!
Some day I'm gonna catch'um all. At least keeping one of each.
