I remember killing nearly everyone in this thread at least once. I'm pretty sure most of you have killed me at least once too.

I was in Tier 1 but after seeing how dull the game became with only a handful of chassis being used and the fact that every second mech I saw was meta I went out of my way to drop my tier all the way down to tier 3 and now I can say I feel like I am seeing more "mechwarrior" and less " ERMGERD L33T Bunny hop meta" But then again I never really did bother with tiers I just wanted more Mechwarrior in Mechwarrior online.

I agree with this sentiment. I hate ranking systems, they just get in the way. It should be just pilots, mechs, and bloody laser death for all. Why can't we just play the game and enjoy it for what it is.

Just wondering how you went from T1 to T3 so quickly? Or perhaps you had super psychic access to early PSR ratings?

Not trying to have a go, just saying that the matchmaker might have changed significantly for a lot of people recently and it was only 2 days ago that players could really see what level they were at.

With visible ratings or not, I'll continue to play MWO the way I want, with the builds I want and the tactics I want. I always have done and I always will do. This has put me totally in the middle of tier 2 and I agree with that assessment. I'm also very happy with what the matchmaker deals me.

After having thought it through for a bit, and playing some matches knowing my PSR, I have decided not to reveal my PSR publicly, and I wish that the ratings were not visible to any of us, and this is my reasoning:

Even though I play this game solely for relaxation and do not really want to care about being competitive, I find that I DO pay more attention to my win/loss streaks. I find myself getting angry about playing decently (even well), losing, and having my PSR rating decrease. I get irked that I had a bad match, just plain got unlucky (ever turn a corner into an enemy assault lance?) yet have the team pull a win, and my PSR goes down. Now I admit, I am a little bit, "type A," but I game for relaxation, yet a visible ranking system makes it difficult to ignore, even though I have no desire to be in the top tier (heck, I run a HOTAS setup and AIM with a joystick).

PSR has actually thus far managed to decrease the fun I am having with the game, yet knowing and making the values public provides no real advantage (i.e., there is nothing gained other than the ability to brag).

I am sure there are other players who feel similarly.

He never actually posted his own tier, I checked.

My Inner Sphere account is Tier 3, my Clan account is Tier 2. I've discussed my goal to hit tier 1 openly in a number of threads, and explained my reasons. I don't view this Tier-system as any accurate indication of skill. It's kind of like people who use their ranking in a tournament as evidence of skill.

Yes, you have to be skilled to win a tournament. But the #1 ranked guy isn't necessarily better than the #15 ranked guy. It just depends how many hours they played, what kind of build they were playing and whether they were pugging or playing in a group. A lot of people have expressed surprise at how wide Tier 1 is, and I agree with them. Many people expected it to be a long term goal, only to find that they unwittingly walked right into Tier 1. But just like the MWO weekend Tournaments, it seems like you can grind your way to the top of the PSR tier system if you just play this game a lot.

And that's totally fine! I actually said in the past that MWO should have an XP tier system that seperates new players from people with 2000 matches played or 5000 matches played. This is effectively what we have now, except that there's a kind of safety valve that lets exceptionally bad or exceptionally good players follow their own path, as they should.

I haven't been playing my Inner Sphere account very much, so I'm not surprised that it's Tier 3. I've played my Clan account more lately, and the fact that my Clan account is Tier 2 just proves my point. The same person is using both accounts. I have the same set of skills, yet one account is ranked higher than the other. Tier 1 or Tier 2 says very little about my skills, I just want to be Tier 1 so I can have more enjoyable games with better teamwork.

That being said...

I really enjoy the irony of other people viewing my big "argument validation index" as elitist, when it was written by a Tier 3 scrub. How does that work, exactly? :)

I even started this thread where I estimated that I was somewhere between Tier 2 and Tier 4, where I said this:

This is just a video game for adults who still play with robots. This isn't serious business. Who cares if someone insults my skills or your skills? It's just something to do when you're killing time between activities in life that actually matter. It's just a game. :)

You know, you should include a j/k (if applicable) because this is being cross-quoted to other threads and people who don't know your sarcasm (as I was told when I took this the apparently wrong way).
Unless you are completely serious, then you should feel bad. I don't think that's the case though.

I practically never include a j/k in my posts when I'm being ironic. It kind of kills the joke, and half the fun of satire is watching people who take it at face value. They're like the people who share links to news articles from The Onion like they're real news, and then act really upset.

It's kind of sad whenever people get upset with me. But it's also kind of funny when half the people see the joke and the other half call me a son of a *****.

Fair enough, I just don't like misunderstanding people. It does them a disservice and in the world on interweb anonymity, you can't take someone at face value when you can't see it. Plus it's a very charged topic these days. :) <-- See that?

Oh, I get that. But I stand firmly in the camp of people who think other people are taking this thing way too seriously. It's a robot fighting ranking system in a video game. It is a very charged topic, but it shouldn't be. :)

People are very easily offended on the internet, and at some point you have to risk offending someone for the sake of a little laugh, n'est-ce pas? Otherwise you can hardly say anything these days.

ugh
i trusted you because i usually trust people when i don't have any special reason not to
though i only partially trusted, i thought you either lied or intentionally tanked your tier

i won't post a macro how you look like, you know that with 'i was merely pretending'

upd
i just asked him if he was really tier 4 because it didn't seem likely, i didn't personally attacked him or something and i don't see how i warranted such a post from him

Considering there were 25,000 people playing in the public queue last weekend there are probably at least 5000 tier 1 players going around. Not all tier 1's are good players and neither are all lower tier players necessarily worse. As there are no seperate stats for solo and group games, people who play primarily solo are probably going to advance a lot more slowly than those who regularly teammup with solid teams.

you probably overestimate the number of tier1 players
i got 140th place (briefly was as high as 33rd) at the end of tourney and i simply wanted 400 on each map, missed one map and stopped playing as soon as they lowered the requirements i.e. more than a day before the event ended, and i'm tier3

Been here a very long time.

My main goal is to OWN and MASTER FULLY all the Inner Sphere chassis before I move on to Clan.

I am soooo close. 160 mechs owned as of today. All Inner Sphere.

Why am I saying this? Because when I saw my tier rating, I was surprised. Also a little mad.

Lame I know. I thought I might be Tier 1.

I am currently lower third of Tier 2. So I have room to improve.

I thought on it and asked myself why?

Here's my list of LAME excuses... :)

1. I do not plan Clan Tech ( better by most people opinion, Crow, Timber, Dire, Cheetah) I know IFF, and others suck..but Clan Tech is powerful, and rightly so.

2. Because I only play a mech until its mastered then buy and play another basic chassis, I very rarely get to leverage a mech at it's best, most capable. Leveling is painful.

3. I have had to play Inner Sphere sub optimal Chassis'. I leveled ALL the Dragons before they were quirked... etc ... Victors after the JJ nerf, Highlanders after the JJ nerf. All capable, but not elite mechs by any means.

4. Lastly, certain players play only a mech or two, or only certain chassis, or only meta builds. I've seen it since inception. Totally cool. But they get to know the mech really well... really, really.. well. I am always trying new load outs as I level my mechs. I can't tell you how many different builds I've made for my 4 Black Knights chassis, and haven't even fully mastered my Maulers.

Those that are Tier 1, well done, and really well deserved. I am envious, and will strive to reach that plateau, it's now fun to see how your PSR goes up or down by the match, so it, I know, make me a better player.

Too often in the past when my team tanked early, I'd at times no longer try. Now even a good losing effort can positively impact my PSR. So that's good that PGI instituted the system as is. Maybe more people will try harder, longer...

But well Done Tier 1's. Kudos!!
