I would swear that heat sinks placed in engines used to receive a boost to their heat dissipation capability. But I was noticing today that the heat efficiency ratings in the various labs (no matter if it's smurfy, li song mech lab, or MWO mechlab) don't show a difference between HSs placed in an engine or HSs placed outside the engine.

Did this change, or I am just nuts and not remembering correctly?

Thanks!

IF you have double heatsinks, the heatsinks built-in to the engine (not added by the player) have 2.0 dissipation, not 1.4 like other double heatsinks the player adds.

So no, those slots in the Engine aren't any more powerful.

There are a maximum of 10 TrueDubs; only those that come with the engine tonnage; only Internal Engine. Anything Engine Mounted or External count as PoorDubs.

It has not changed.

Engine rating divided by 25 (rounded down) is how many heat sinks the engine can hold, up to the first 10 are free. Any beyond that must be slotted (e.g., a 300 engine comes with 10 heat sinks and 2 empty heat sink slots). Double heat sinks that are organic to the engine are 2.0 dissipation, those in critical slots or in engine slots are 1.4 (the 300 engine in the previous example would have 10 "true" double heat sinks, the additional 2 slots would be 1.4s if filled).

Engines rated below 250 are at a disadvantage because some of your minimum 10 heat sinks won't be "true doubles".

It's never been that way. All DHS added to an engine with slots have always been 1.4s

A full 10 HS/DHS is only included in all 'Mechs in TT. In MWO, you only get 10 full 2.0 DHS if you run a 250 Engine or higher. Down to 225, you get 9 full 2.0 DHS and have to add an external one...and so on. The external DHS essentially achieve their 2.0 once the Mastery bonuses are applied. The lower the engine rating, the less internal heat sinks you have and have to equip external heat sinks. PGI did this so Light 'Mechs wouldn't run super cool.

Your theory is debunked by the fact that several lights have engine caps that are 250 or above.

Interesting I was wondering why the heck extra heatsinks I through into the built in engine spare heatsink slots were not having more of an effect than if I put them somewhere else like side torso or arms. Didn't realize it was only the engines internal heatsinks that got the bonus.

I was told that the extra engine-slotted heat sinks work like crit padding. True?

Maybe,

They can be crit, which means they have Crit Slots. Someone suggested that they simply add additional Crit Slots to the CT; IE, an XL400 Banshee with 6 heatsinks goes from 12 CT crit slots to 30 slots (+18).
No idea how it actually is.

But, there's very little benefit for most mechs, as there's rarely anything to protect in the CT. Best to throw those DHS next to weapons or ammo.

I recently found my Mech Warrior II book and started looking through it

Its amazing back in the day I hardly looked at the thing I just played and had fun

Now we spend time trying to read and understand patch notes
Analyzing quirks

Asking the MWO old timers how things work
Half the time things work in game totally different then all your research suggests
Hell things work differently in CW then they do in solo

Someone please tell me this is fun
