Does switching pods cost money? How much? Do I pay every time I switch, or only for acquiring a new pod, which I can then use any time I want? Please be specific. Thank you!

They work like any other piece of equipment. You only need to buy it and stick on whichever mech you like. Just remember, if you want to use it on multiple mechs, you'll have to go into the mechlab and move it around.

As long as you own the omnipods you are switching, it should not cost any money to switch. If you do not own the omnipods, you will need to buy them (or buy the battlemech they are attached to). However, you can swap omnipods much in the same way as equipment that is not hardwired into the mech. The cost of the individual omnipod varies with the mech, but the price ranges from approximately 148,000 c-bills (kitfox) to around 438,000 c-bills (Direwolf).
E.G. I buy a stormcrow C. If I want to add the stormcrow Prime head omnipod, I can either buy the omnipod separately or simply remove the head omnipod I already have equipped on my Stormcrow Prime and use that on my C.
Edit: the information on omnipods I did get off of smurfy, so the mist lynx omnipods are possibly cheaper.

Be cautious, though. If you switch pods between an Artemis and non-Artemis mech, you MAY run into a bug that causes that to cost you money. It's f***ed up, I know.
