That only implies the Grasshopper is superior by default.

Coupled with a super easy to hit CT (like a Catapult or Dragon), you're asking for a mech to be squishy no matter what the range happens to be.

It reminds me a lot of the original "Coretaro" and "Onion" as both had crazy small side torsos.

True, the waist high or lower hard points on the BK, however, make it very different from most of the other mechs in the game. You have to expose at least 50% of your mech to fire at anything. You have to forget cover and simply to charge in a brawl. Or wait for the other guy to charge and melt his face off. Which is pretty hard to do on a pure energy mech. The BK has 2 maybe three alphas in it before it shuts down. Best to keep to the fringe of the murderball and go for kills that only take one or two alpha strikes.

It hard points prevent it from being a useful energy sniper, and the quirks + PPC speeds work against anyone trying to snipe with the BK. The mech is best at medium to short ranges, in swirling chaos.

It's not even for the right reasons.

Technically, PGI could have made the BK have multiple 3rd energy torso variants like the 6B "7" variant. I'm not even sure of the underlying logic for not doing it (you're not going to sell packs this way anyways).

If it's just being held out "to be used in a future addon bonus" like the Resistance Pack Wave 1 extras... well... by then noone's going to bother.

Ironically the Grasshopper-5P (the PGI variant) is actually rather inferior to the rest (well, the 5J is actually meddlesome).

yea, the 5P took me awhile tyo figure something out decent. In the end I just boated 6 mpl, maxed out the engine, JJs, and heatsinks

I guess the most disappointing thing is that I figured that by choosing the Black Knight they were trying to supply IS pilots with a counterpart to the Timber Wolf, or more accurately a Thunderbolt in the 75t class.

I'd be fine with the low hardpoints if it had perks like the Thunderbolt.

It is the IS counterpart to the Timberwolf. Its infotech is practically off the chart. lern2sensor

unfortunately in the current meta where long range and limited exposure is everything thats not true.

high hardpoints wouldnt matter as much if the game had more brawling, because in brawling low hardpoints arnt as much of a disadvantage.

but unless they nerf the hell out of the long range meta brawling isnt going to make a significant comeback anytime soon.

Unless black knight detects enemies through terrain it's not a good choice for a heavy.

The hard points are low which is bad for some maps but the biggest problem for me is trying to spread damage against good opponents. Sure most people just shoot at you without aiming but when you face someone who knows what they are doing you get hit in the ct even if you turn your mech 90 degrees.

They are pretty low.

On the other hand, I can have 8 MPL in a neat horizontal line. As soon as I can figure out a way to use cover without my head popping up like a gopher in a hole I'm gold.

You know what would be great for that? A kneel/crouch button, like MW4 had. That way I can actually put down my super high CT head into cover with the rest of me. And don't tell me it can't be done, its in the opening scene of the tutorial when you drop from your ride!

While the ridge humping ability is bad, it's decent at poking out from around corners.

I think the mech is Teir 3 or so and will do fine in the public queues.
