yesterday. I'm a mid-tier 2 player and I wanted to test out a vanilla account, especially now with visible PSRs.

1). The game actually starts out noobs at a high Tier 4. I'd say the bar was 7/8 full or more.

2). It took me 21 games to advance to Tier 3. This was with a W/L of 11/10 and a K/D of 23/16. Of my losses, I stayed even on two games and went up on three. I stayed even on one win due to low score, but went up otherwise. So I went 13 up, 3 even, and 5 down.

3). On average Tier 4 games are very different from Tier 2 games. A lot more FF and wandering off, but on the other hand I don't get shot at nearly as much. I do recognize some good players occasionally, and those guys just feast. It seems like the skill level spread is much greater when playing Tier 4--there are a lot of poor pilots and a small number of skilled guys eating them up.

I'm pretty sure T2 players can play against T4 players.

They can.

Also for OP, I tried a fresh account as well, took me a single game to get T3.

Makes one wonder if the Cadet Bonus somehow applies to your PSR points gained for a win ... if they have some sort of bonus multiplier applied across the board, that could inflate the points gained for a win during the first 25 matches ...

Clarification 4: I can jump from Tier 4 to Tier 3 in my first match on a new account.
That's true, you can. This is because we want to seed new players faster. Much like the cadet C-Bill bonus, we have a multiplier for the first few matches a new player plays. This multiplier degrades over a set number of matches until it drops to standard PSR point changes.

I think part of the reason for this is that not everybody plays every day, like I just came back from a ca. 6 month break. I quickly moved up to T3, but the first 5 or 10 matches in T4 were surprisingly easy.. I was making mistakes left and right, but still managed very high match scores, despite the rust on my actuators... presumably because while piloting skills certainly degrade with inactivity, one`s understanding of small group tactics and level of situational awareness don`t degrade nearly as fast, and those are infinitely more important. A crappy pilot that "gets" tactics can still lure you into a deadly trap, but without that understanding the best pilot in the world is still a sitting duck. ;)
