Hey guys finishing up the download here and about ready to jump in. Is there any invite codes for new players for a couple days premium time or something similar? Also I was curious if there are player made mods/addons to customize GUI?

Nothing of the sort.

You join the game, you play the tutorial and get a cool 5 mill

Then you use trial mechs to get your first battles.
The first 25 matches you are awarded a bonus c-bills which can amount to around 11 mill.

Then you will use that money to get a mech or just keep using trial mechs until you find a kind of mech or class of mechs you feel comfortable with and then you can either buy the one you like or come back to the forums to request some ideas about which mech to buy.

That's about it.

Have fun with the tutorial, brand new one and can really help you get the general idea.

You are welcome!
Also, this game is about pacing yourself. Do not be too anxious to get things done, especially at the start.
Take your time, don't worry if you suck. With practice you will get better even if slowly.

Another quick tip for you:
If you see your aim isn't working as intended, fiddle with the mouse sensitivity on the settings.
Some advocate the lower the sensibility, the better.
I for one have it at the lowest and change the mouse DPi settings depending on what kind of mech or playstyle I use and what fits me.

Once you complete the tutorial, be sure to use the training grounds, it will help you know the maps and also you can use the NPCs there to practice your shooting and know how the weapons heat up or what's their range... etc.

Welcome to MWO, your journey to become a MechWarrior has begun! :)

after clicking the "download now" button and downloading the client there is a screen with a few boxes, click on them and you will get a day of free premium time.

premium time increases match earnings by 50%, but does not modify achievements which is how the tutorial reward and cadet bonus (8 million over your first 25 games) are given, it ticks down in real time, it does not stop when you are not in-game, so I would advise not taking it until after you have completed the tutorial and use it when you have a few hours to spend in game
