Hi all,

So I have been grinding through the Thunderbolt variants with the aim of gaining the perks etc. Currently skilling up the 9s, however, I am very underwhelmed with its performance. When I have skilled it completely, if I sell the chassis, will I lose the elite perks/skills on the 5s and 9se which I am very happy with?

no, you keep the skills after selling a Mech, however you cannot access the XP to ether spend it or convert it unless you own the Mech

Rouge Jedi is correct about the first two. You can convert XP to GXP through the the UI now. Here a video if you have questions:

Recommend you hold onto that thunderbolt longer if you can. Everything is going to undergo a rebalance in a few months maybe and it could make the difference. At the very least, elite it and play some matches. Once elited, all mechs get their basic'd skills doubled. It makes quite a difference.

Not sure, actually. You'll have to at least HAVE OWNED three variants of that chassis, and completed BASIC on all of them, before you can start putting XP into the ELITE skills on any one of them. From the early days of the current C-Bill economy, I remember having/keeping only one JR7 chassis at a time, running it through BASIC, then selling it and buying the next. I THINK you can do them one at a time like that, without owning three or more simultaneously, but I'm just not POSITIVE of it.

SIMPLE ANSWER: You SHOULD be able to complete the BASIC skills on them one at a time, if you don't own three or more of the chassis. Remember, though, you cannot BEGIN to put XP into the ELITE tier skills until you have completed all 8 BASIC tier skills on AT LEAST three distinct variants of that mech chassis. For example, if you already have JR7-F and JR7-K completely BASIC-unlocked, then you can buy a JR7-D and complete the BASICs, and go right to the ELITEs. But you cannot unlock ANY ELITE skills on ANY of them, until you have completed BASIC on at least THREE DISTINCT VARIANTS. And the Champion, Invasion, Resistance, and Collectors versions are NOT distinct variants. A SHC-PRIME(I) is no different from a SHC-PRIME for purposes of skills, as a RVN-3L(C) is no different from a RVN-3L for that purpose.

Not so simple. Sorry. THIS is why I sucked at teaching...

provided at some point you have completed all the basics on 2 other variants, then yes.

if the variant designation ends in any of the following (C) (F) (L) (P) (S) (I) ® then it counts as the same variant without the number in brackets

e.g.
If I purchase the SDR-5D, 5V and 5K, completed the basic skills then sold off the 5D and 5K keeping the 5V (because its 12 Jumpjets and 170KPH after speed tweak make it the most fun Mech in the game, who cares about the superior firepower and/or ECM the others offer).
I can then elite the 5V making it faster and more responsive
If I purchased a SDR 5D, an SDR-5K and an SDR-5K(C) that only counts as 2 variants because the 5K and the 5K(C) both count as the same variant

A little on this. Us players who ran through more mechs have come across variants that performed crap until we got either the speed tweak or 2x basic. At least i did.

This is why i say don't give up on those underperforming mechs, you never know.

SO, once we fill out all of the elite boxes, then our basic skills on that variant will double? Am I understanding that right?

Thanks,
Fulgar

I would not sell the 9S. It has some interesting hardpoints that could be fun builds in the future.

No. You keep the unlocked skills, and even the XP on the mech. You won't be able to spend the XP on the 9S, until you re-purchase it though.

Not unless you had previous owned to 2 other variants that went to full basics.

Here's the TL;DR on skills:

Basics: unlocked when you purchase the mech

Elites: You need three variants of that chassis to have full basics (So 2 previous ones, plus the current one)

Master: You need three mechs in the weight class to have full elites.

For example, when I broke into mediums, I started with the blackjacks. Got the 1X to full elites, and sold it (I had already sold the other 2 to make room for other mechs), Then I worked on two Centurions, got one of the variants to full elites, and sold them. Then I worked on the Cicadas. Once I got one Cicada to full elites, it technically unlocked the master slot for all medium mechs henceforth.

That doesn't mean I can get a fresh mech, and immediately buy the master tier. You still need to progress through basics --> Elites --> Master
