I tested this a few times with it happening most when I went from the Thunderbolt you complete the tutorial in to the Firestarter on the far left.
After the switch my Mech would power up but the HUD would not load, if I power down then power back up it fixes it.

I've had the same problem switching into the Catapult (Jester) and another...IIRC, the King Crab...it makes the gauntlet much harder when you can't see the next checkpoint on your tactical map or crosshairs to make sure you're going to poke the bad guys with lasers...
Didn't try powering down and back up...

This was a bug in PTS that was extra annoying. It looks like they haven't been able to find a solid fix yet.
Power down and power back up fixes this bug.

Maybe It's because there is no power-up sequence when you change mechs?

Might be and makes some sense if PGI oversaw the issue somehow, since its still in.

This would be my guess.
My 2 cents if it is the case:
Spawn in your new mech completely powered down, and force the player to boot up the mech.
When it plays the "exit" animation from your mech, when you get in the cockpit of the new mech, it is automatically started up. Just change it to where you are sitting in a perfectly still cockpit, hit the p key, and then it triggers the boot up sequence, and the UI should then load properly.
Just me though.

Thanks, I was wondering how that was going to get fixed. Now I can do it myself.

Maybe they should just make it so when you swap into a mech, it is powered down to begin with, and have one of those UI thingies telling you to press the Power Up button. Problem solved!

+1 here too.
Hope this gets fixed soon, it'll be especially confusing for new players.

It is funny this happens because it was a bug that was prevalent through closed beta. Must have been hiding somewhere deep in the code

Same bug, tbolt to Jagger and then to Firebrand.
Also it's not clear that if you head to the academy you can't redo the movement challenge.

You can redo the movement challenge - Pilot Challenge 1 - double click it in the ESC menu Roadmap or find the trigger
