Allard uses Clan tech, so having the hero use Clan tech while the C-Bills variants are IS tech would be pretty bad for balance (hero outright superior to normal variants).
EDIT: Wait, I think that Grinner actually started out as a normal IS Wolfie before being rebuilt.

Allards, as tested during the 4th succession war was a normal WLF. Grinner was also a normal WLF until the Clans built their own. The WLF Phelan piloted in the battle of Tukayyid is not IS. As stated in the novel, they had enough schematics salvaged from Phelan's cockpit, they were able to build one. If anything, this is a testament to the Clan's technical expertise.
How about two heroes? One for Dan Allard with IS tech, and one for Grinner with Clan tech? Then we could justify getting Prometheus for the IS (slightly modified with the established IS tech).

It is a weird situation. The Grinner is probably the more famous of the two but it was only an IS mech for a short time before being remade with Clan tech. At the same time it was a unique Clan mech and I doubt the Wolfhound IIc will ever be added.
There were also 2 Allard versions, one with IS tech (WFL-1) and one with Clan tech (WLF-2). So many of the famous IS pilots were able to add Clan tech to their mechs because they had access to such a huge amount of resources. If Clan and IS tech were equalized here it would not matter but since they are not it creates a bit of a problem. As it is there is a good chance we may never see some of those mechs.

IF we had a proper salvage system in place......

My guess, it's design might still be or was in limbo for the longest time. Maybe they are having a hard time getting the head to look right. Who knows really, I'm just hoping they will show us soon.

So Allard's WLF-1 was IS and his WLF-2 had Clan tech, that is essentially what I said was it not?
Grinner was IS originally and then got remade into the IIc but was a unique model.
I am confused, it seems you just repeated what I said. Are you saying Allard had 4 Wolfhounds rather then 2?

WLF-2 IS NOT clan tech. It's Inner Sphere tech all the way. That's what I was saying. The only clan tech WLF was Phelan's until the 3060s, when Allard got his retrofitted. The rest was repeat, true. I provided the wiki link to it if you read it, it says everything there. The WLF-2 was updated with Star League tech, to match the likes of the Enforcer, Centurian, and other mechs that got updated, it was just pretty late.

Really though, I probably spend way too much of my time on Sarna and I do not even play the TT, I just love reading about stuff I am interested in. What did people do before the internet? Oh yeah we read books, which reminds me...
