I don't disagree with that. It's also important to really look at the individual steps. There are odd sweet spots and overlarge jumps. I find great use for the STD335, weird though that sounds, because it's a series of small steps up to it and larger ones shortly after. The STD305/XL305 I loathe because both add 1.5 tons over the 300 for almost no purpose. Most builds are really "good enough" with the 25-increment (or slightly above a la XL255/XL280) and it really only makes sense to buy the oddball engines to truly optimize a comp-worthy or favorite build.
Please note that this is excellent advice that I'm completely unable to follow and thus I personally own virtually every useable engine in the game and many copies of the really good ones. Seems I always need one more XL295 or XL300...
