You Gotta Love The Urbanmech!

I run Ferro, Endo, XL145, standard heat sinks, 1xAC10 + 2 tons ammo, 1xMLas, one jet, and put the rest into armor. The build has maneuverability on par with a medium and top speed just short of 80kph without speed tweak. It has a heat rating of 1.42/2.
I facetanked a stock Catapult K2 with this build by getting inside PPC range and daring him to stop me with his machine guns. A few rounds to the nose with my peacemaker, and Urbie prevailed! It was my first kill in an Urbie...ironic, because I have achieved Catapult Mastery and have the gold wings on all five of my Catapults now.
But chicks dig Urbies. I have to admit it. It's true.

You get some really good games/kills/damages in when people ignore you.
People also chase you thinking its an easy kill, which is when you pull them into a bait and switch

I imagine anyone who is killed by my Urbie must be FFSing in their cockpit...

The Mauler has the ability to aim that low very precisely, even when close to the Urbie when you press Ctrl (or STRG for german keyboards) because of cockpit-glass in front and under the pilots legs, when you think of it in time. Otherwise you get cored, which happenend to me today.

Bait and switch is hilariously fun and the UrbanCombat build is just fast enough to do it. Like the time last night I led a hungry Ryoken to my little friend, the King Crab.
It's the only light mech I like, and the only mech I play where I still laugh when I get like 5 points of damage. Damage scores are irrelevant in the Urbie. It is all about the attitude. And there's just something Zen about running around like Deputy Dog with a big peacemaker and an attitude like you're bigger than you are. I do things in the UrbanMech that I'd never do in Catapults. Sometimes I get squished like a bug ten seconds from jump. Other times I rack up 158 damage and eight assists. I've had entire enemy teams focus on the Urbie and ignore the assault mech standing right in front of me. I've been completely ignored, too. Sometimes they troll me by blowing off my peacemaker...and forget the laser...and as they're running away laughing I'm melting off their rear torso armor. I've even trundled into battle at 30kph (I don't recommend this but it's the only way to do it with an AC20) and walked right up behind a Mad Cat dueling with a Mauler, popped him in the back, and had him turn and look at me...I swear that the pilot was like "you little %*€#!"....just long enough for the Mauler to core him from behind.
By the way, I experimented with an ER PPC and AC2 instead...and wow, that's hot, plus standard sinks don't do heat dissipation worth a hoot. I also tried a PPC/MG/SLas combo but I don't like it, if found it limiting. But I'm having to learn a whole new way to fight and it's the total antithesis of driving a heavy mech.
Good old Urbie. Almost every match is insane when you're in one.

Running energy only on an Urbanmechs is just plain wrong!
Ps - always have at least one JJ, when you are small and slow, environmental barriers like shrubs and fences can ruin your day.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. It just feels wrong to run an Urbie without a cannon. I tried changing it out for a PPC and MGs and it just felt wrong. I like the u/AC5 a lot, my R63 has the u/AC5, DHS, and three MLs. It can be very interesting, but the AC10 is like Goldilocks, LOL. I miss it when it is gone and I wish the LB-X10 would get some love because it's really not as good as the standard Autocannon.

But, I drive mostly lights, and so I sadly often miss the big-gun-shooty sounds of ballistics. Having a light ballistic platform that doesn't feel like you need a shoehorn it to make it work is very refreshing.
Plus, I find that *no one* ignores me. Sure sometimes teams chase Jenners and Ravens, and get yelled at by team mates. But pilots go bonkers for the Urbie. "Gotta kill that noob!!" The Urban reverses well though, can spread damage well enough, and excels at dragging hungry hippos away from the group, where friends happily can make the kill.
I'll stand right beside a DW, and the enemy will obsess over me, ignoring the Assault. It's crazy.

UM-R60 - As close to stock as possible without being cripplingly slow. Super-super stock, call it. About as fast as my AC20 BoomBird Raven, so I know I can at least make it perform.
UM-R60L - Taking advantage of quirks. Truth be told I really, really wanna keep the AC20 on it, but there's no way I'm gonna be able to pull my weight in that without eliting it first, so it'll be carrying small wubs for a while instead. AC2 is there for the lulz of tickling things that are too far away to shoot back.
UM-R63 - For something with range that's good for being more than just annoying.
UM-R63(S) - *GASP* There's no Autocannon! Heresy! HERESY!!! I was thinking about a LPL or ERLL, but decided that lower facetime was better until I got elites, and I do okay in my other PPC jumpers.

I struggled a lot with AC5 - not fast enough damage, and I can't sniping at long range (Though I can work a Gauss fine, but thats too heavy for an Urbie).
UAC5 was worse. All the short comings of the AC5, and it jams on me ALL the time...
AC10 is too heavy for any decent backup weapons, or decent amount of ammo.
LBX10 allows 1 more ton for back up MLas *or* ammo, but doesn't compensate for the lack of focused damage for a main weapon.
Its phallic shaped profile is its greatest strength, and allows you to hump anything - other mechs legs, trees, ridges, bridges, and buildings. And high weapon mounts (relative to cockpit), anything you can see, you can shoot.
Its down sides are that it neither has speed nor armour, but doesn't exactly lack both. Its a really weird no man's land. You have to find short open areas to weave through, and never face tank anyone (no lag shield).
I took out an Atlas last night. Someone broke its right arm, so I humped the left of the small building at the saddle on crimson. I could shoot him, but he couldnt shoot me

But yea, its so funny. People either follow you religiously, or ignore you completely - either way, its their own funeral

Okay, I only recommend this build to those who think the Locust has more armor than it needs, and has the patience to know when they can use one of the very few and precious shells it carries.

I have literally chased a Dragon around the entire caldera of Caustic with this one - once people find out what yer packin', they run away scared like school girls.

1) as mentioned LPL,MPL and 4MG, xl engine 125ish to get to 74kph
2) my favorite of the AC builds- ac5 (2 tons ammo) and 4 SPL, xl 120ish engine to 71kph
3) UM-R63(S) ac 5 (2 tons mmo) and 2 ML and std 120ish engine- 71kph again
4) UM-R63 I can't settle between ac 2 (2 tons ammo) and 2 MPL or ac10 (2 tons ammo) and ML. std 100 engine
the 63s have been the toughest for me as the 63 dies more quickly than the (S) but their stats are combined so i'm around 0.75 kdr. the first two both carry kdrs over 1.0 though

I also trolled an Executioner in that match, LOL. Shot him in the back with my peacemaker and then led him right to the guns of a friendly lance. Games like that in an UrbanMech are the time of your life. I get a good one about every third or fourth drop in the solo queue.

With the small size and high hard points I spend the beginning of the game poking and just being a general nuisance for the other team. It definitely plays different than other sniper lights, you need to stay close to the heavy and assault mechs and have them tank damage for you.
Then once the match progresses once I see open torsos or damaged mechs by themselves it's crazy ankle biter time! I rush in and hit them with the 4 mg's and concentrate LL fire on the yellow or red. I love thinking of the one arm Mad Dog that had to be panicking as this little Urbie was slowly chewing it up. Or all the tasty King Crabs that thought their DPS was high enough to protect their open center torsos.
Mwahahaha!
I also have fun with Boom Stick, my AC5, 3 ML, 2 MG R63 (sometimes I'll switch it to an AC10). The only one I can't see to get to work is the 3 ML 1 LPL 2 MG R60L build. I need to stop trying to make the lasers work and add more AC boom!
