Been playing about 2 months and slowly building up my stable of I.S 'mechs, but been mostly focusing on assaults so I'm quite sure I don't have the right 'mechs to drop with for a total of 250 tons.

Here is what I have mastered:

Firestarter 9A - first 'mech.

Battlemaster 2C - My best performing 'mech, consistently do very well in it unless the other team rolls over our team quickly, but against very good players the XL375 is a liability.

King Crab - 0000 - Hit or miss with these, only really finished mastering them because I spent the large amounts of cbills on them. Never got on with the low slung and wide ballistics, so if I ever run it now I prefer filling the torso slots with LPL and SRM's.

King Crab - 000 - Only use if I want to boat ballistics. Not often. Low and wide is frustrating at times.

Banshee - 3M - Just finished mastering the banshee's yesterday. Chose the banshee next because I wanted a tanky tall assault using STD engines. I like it a lot, but still don't perform consistently like I do with the Battlemaster.

Banshee - 3E - Right now just using it as a fire support with 4 AC2's and an XL375. Load of fun to face off with any mech, even a dire wolf or a big LRM boat at long range and make them retreat. But it's not a killer, just a suppressor. I tried playing it as a 95 ton Atlas with AC20 and a STD 340, which was fairly decent.

Any suggestions on what 'mechs I should be looking at to master next to build a drop deck so I can start in CW? I've bought and sold plenty of 'mechs I just didn't like, I seem to be really picky. If my first impressions of a 'mech are bad then I generally can't be bothered with it and don't give it much of a chance to shine. Sell it at a huge loss to buy the next 'mech a bit quicker.

Can I solo queue in community warfare? Not really looking to join a unit until I'm confident in my performance in more competitive play.

Thanks for any advice.

Tbolt , nothing that requires an xl or ammo. Later you can add a few ammo mechs for some maps but for now laser vomit.

This might change after the rebalance but that's it for now.

Yes you can solo but don't plan on ever wiñning. You don't have to join a unit to play on a team. Most houses have ts servers. You jump on the ts server and join up with 11 other people. When you do this atleast you know the 11 other people will go along with a plan. I would tell you to come over to Marik house server but we don't cw much anymore. I have a feeling we will after they update it and balance is/clan but that will be few months.

How do you get started in CW?

Since you're not looking to join a unit for some time, here's my answer: Don't.

There's a reason why I've dubbed it Unit Warfare, & it's because of the "Go 12 or go home" mentality of those who do play CW.

WOPR said it best, indirectly talking about CW.

Interesting game, the only way to win is not to play.

CW sucks. Rumors are it will suck less sometime in the future.

Go on the attack instead of answering the defense calls. You've got a higher chance of being matched up with some form of group on your side.

Obviously these aren't always the case, but the overwhelming majority of the time these are true:
- Groups Attack
- Solos Defend

Right now with no CW event going on, the majority of the CW population are dedicated CW groups, so you're more likely to have long wait times and run into large groups more often. If you feel pretty confident, sure, drop right in, although if you want a good first time CW experience, I'd recommend waiting until another CW event, because there's more solo players dropping, and the chances of you running into a large group is smaller.

I ran for quite a while a drop deck with king crab, battlemaster, raven and locust ( 240 tons )

You could use the king crab, battlemaster, firestarter instead of raven and add a 30 tonner ( spider 5d? ).

General advices:
Bring ECM in some of your mech(s) for stealth.
LRM are usually a bad idea. Use direct fire weapons for best results.
Most of the time you will be forced to fight at long ranges, while some brawlers are still viable, reaching the enemy can be hard.
When your team push, push with them, whatever your loadout. The only exception is lights if they are flanking. It's really sad when puging CW to die at the front and see assaults and heavies hiding 1 km behind the battle. Don't be that guy.

I want to believe in phase 3 too
