Most recent addition to my stable would be the Griffins, with the Sparky purchased with MC obtained from the event earlier this year along with the 2N and 1N variants. They are almost mastered. Well, not really but almost every mech I have has the 2x basic by now.

I have 66+ mil c-bills and using up 54 out of 56 mechbays with another coming my way from the appreciation program. I was hoping to get more from CW but that's dead in the water at the moment.

Anyway, I can easily afford 3 variants for a mastery and am wondering what to get next. You can check out my list below. I figure a snapshot of the skill table is the best way to list out what I mechs I have already tried.

As you can see, I'm generally no fan of Assaults unless they are fairly speedy like the Victor and Banshee. I thought about getting the Atlas but my experience with the Dire Wolf has put me off slow lumbering mechs. Was considering the Stalker somewhat but they might be nerfed in the next balance pass.

The obvious choice would be to try the Executioner when its out for c-bills but that would drain my bank and I was hoping to save up for the Jenner IICs, Hunchback IICs, and maybe the Marauders (3 of each for mastery) when they are available for c-bills. While that's still some time away, you know how it is...grinding in the Paulconomy. I can't afford to spend real money for now due to the ****** exchange rate where I am.

So is there anything interesting for me to try, or should I just finish mastering my remaining mechs and wait for the next interesting c-bill release?

Am quite interested in the Urbies should they be available for c-bills. Just for the heck of it.

Do you want a challenge? Try the Mist Lynx. Nothing else jumps quite like it, but it's hot garbage (quite literally, every single build you can make on this thing will be HOT).

Blackjacks are a good choice, with the 1X being the most meta variant built as xl295 6ML+ 2MPL. Theyre a fun chassis and one of my favorites. Battlemasters are fun too, theyre generally built like a lighter and faster banshee, the 1S is supposed to be a missle boat but has really nice +25% energy range and can mount 4 LPL and is probably the best out of the bunch.

Gonna second it on the Blackjacks. among the earliest mech series that i bought, the 1X is an absolute blast to play. max engine and all 8 Medium laser loadout makes it like a speedy lil' Nova for the 'Sphere.
Also the 3 with PPC's and adv. zoom gives you a nimble lil' medium fire support mech with unusually high firepower. (though tends to run hot)
(NOW WHERE ARE MY BLACKJACK-2's?)

Go with the blackjacks. The 1X is a ton of fun and one of my favorite mechs.

I see three that you should go for.

Hunchback, Blackjack, and Quickdraw.

How can you not have Hunchbacks? :D

You could try the Locusts.
They cost alomost nothing, and while nowhere near strong (but they can be very strong, in the right hands), they are the most fun mechs in the game next to urbies.

With the meta game changing, I would suggest avoiding it at all costs until we know how good the meta lemmings are messed with.

Get yourself a mech that looks like FUN to play.

If you are having fun with your Griffins, maybe try the Wolverines, very similar loadouts and how they play/pilot. Plus the Loyality Wolverine in a few days, be good to Master two others to master the Loyality one.

I have just recently Mastered the Zeus. Rather fun chassis and been very happy with them.

You will NEVER make a bad choice on a chassis if you pick one that YOU enjoy and to hell with everyone else.

Nerfing is irrelevant here- it's hard to get more lumber-y than the Stalker. Thing has a low engine cap, even for an Assault.

Earlier poster regarding the Battlemaster is partly right- they are good at going fast for an Assault. Be careful, though, some of them have rather restrictive torso twist ranges. A friend of mine picked up Battlemasters and immediately regretted it because two of the three he chose had the narrower torso twist and it vastly soured the experience.

In weight category order on other 'mechs that seem like they might be good fits- only Inner Sphere, because that's where most of my piloting experience lies:

Locusts are a lot of fun if you don't mind (or outright enjoy) a perspective that makes you feel like an ankle-biting mosquito. Very zippy, very risky, very entertaining to just wheel around at ludicrous speeds in. Several of them have very nice hardpoint sets (just avoid ballistics) as well.

Blackjacks aren't terribly zippy, but you could- as I have- find a lot of fun in their small profile, narrow front-to-back shape, and broad torso twist. I like my Blackjacks to have Standard engines and jump jets, for durability and maneuverability, despite most people swearing by XLs with either a squillion pulse lasers or an AC/20. Don't try and run a /20 on a BJ without an XL, by the way, it's just barely too heavy a weapon otherwise.

Hunchbacks are an extremely varied lot, while the G and H are fairly similar and the J and SP have the same hardpoint count, they still function quite differently from one another due to hardpoint location. The variety itself makes them fun to try, plus 50 is a good tonnage for flexibility of weapon choice. Also, be aware that if you drive a J or SP and don't mount missiles in the missile hardpoints (probably shouldn't try this with the J, the quirks are very missile-support) you lose the hunch entirely and become a 'Puffchest' instead, which can be entertaining to try.

I'm enjoying the Black Knights quite a bit. I know they're not C-bill available yet, but they're quite easy to run at high speed, and you can play around with the energy hardpoints a remarkable amount. Mixing things up as to what's mounted where and which kind of energy weapons you're using can get you a lot of play- I even have one that mounts single heat sinks (34 of them) just for lulz- and it actually works quite well.

Dragons and Quickdraws are both speedy 60-tonners that you should consider if you like heavier things that still move at a good clip. Dragons are slightly more pigeon-holed, thanks to the giant Volvo hood and ballistic right arm (as well as the very restricted missile hardpoints in the CT), but work well as long-distance skirmishers or ambush brawlers.

Quickdraws are very much more my speed (pun absolutely intended) though, as you can no doubt tell from my pilot name. If you can remember not to stay engaged for very long at a time, the high speed, jump jets, and energy/missile weapon combinations can net you a lot of fun and interesting encounters. QKDs have small side torso hitboxes, so XLs are very safe in them, and the limbs tend to soak a lot of incoming damage- so don't skimp on limb or CT armor (CT is hueg, by the by). I've seen people use them with PPCs as very effective jump snipers, my G with its huge seven jump jets is a kind of hilarious fire-support 'mech via LRMs and ERLLs, and pretty much any Quickdraw makes a very fun skirmish 'mech- jump into/over enemy formations, fade out, and return from a new direction. You'll keep the enemy distracted, and if you time it right, that can secure a win quite nicely.

The Awesome is a surprisingly spry Assault- while it's a little slower than the Victor, it can still move at a good clip with a 300-320 engine, it torso twists like a champ, and there's a pretty good variety in variant nature. Between durability and heat dissipation quirks, it's actually exceptionally fun to ride around in. Some swear by LRMs for any missile hardpoints it mounts, but I have an SRM-24 AWS that is just hilarious..... Anyways, maybe not the most effective thing around, but loads of fun to fool around in, and a lot more useful than they get credit for.

Zeus have a similar effect to the Awesome- not as fast (usually) as the Victor, but still quite spry with a lot of potential. You can deadside very easily with some of them for sword-and-board action, others make good balanced 'mechs, the missile-hardpoint focused ones can have a Fist of Doom (up to 18 SRMs on the right arm), and they're tough like [metaphor fail, retrying] and they're tough like jerky.

There you go, some food for thought.

Happy piloting.

Yeah, I was also eyeing the Blackjack now that you guys mention it, but how would the mech be without quirks? I would prefer a mech that would still be fun yet usable after the balance pass. It doesn't have to be meta though since I'm not exactly chasing Tier 1

Quickdraw is a heavy and I have too many of those. Hunchbacks were too slow for my taste which was why I picked the Trenchie. This was before the quirks of course. After that, I just lacked mech bays.

Between the Hunchback and the Blackjack, I think I would go for the Blackjack.

Won't work for me. I have this tendency towards recklessness and impatience with speedy lights. I am decent in the Adder because I treat it like a Medium which is why I figure I might be OK in the slower Urbie.

If I had the bays to spare, I would get Locusts anyway simply because they're cheap but I'm kinda running short at the moment.

I built and learned to love my cute little Blackjacks before quirks were even a thing.

The Urbie is a. Curiousity. For reference, I'm using an XL175 in all variants that I enjoy.

Here's the thing. If you're going to run a Ballistic, and run at a decent speed, with enough ammo to be consisent, your biggest bet is an AC10. This is achieveable at around max engine size, and stripping that one arm you inevitably won't use.

If you don't care for that, then you can go an energy heavy Urbie.

You can go for a midrange 3LL/2PPC Urbie. The latter is actually hotter than the 3LL, but it lets you mount that JJ more comfortably to peektart. You sacrifice quite a bit on legs, but the Urbie is almost never legged anyway, so this is a moot point.

I never really liked the ML/AC5/UAC5 build people seem to insist on, but eh. To each their own. That kind of thing belongs on a much swifter chassis.

Why not a 180XL? Same tonnage, only about 120k c-bills more.

Locust, Mist Lynx, or Blackjack.

Locust is heaps of fun, nothing flits around the battlefield quite like it and the LCT-1E is punching way above its weight.

Mist Lynx is hard-mode, because of those arms, but 4x C-SPL and 3xCSPL + 2xCSRM2 builds can actually shred things.

All of the Blackjacks are solid, though the BJ-1X, BJ-1DC, and BJ-3 are the best because of energy hard-points.

I was also using all of the Locusts and all of the Blackjacks before quirks. They were still quite capable back then, especially the LCT-3M, LCT-1E, BJ-1X, and BJ-1DC. They move fast enough to close the range gap and, the 1DC with 2xLL+4xML, has longer range anyway.

^This. A well run Wubmaster can be devastating and almost nobody xl-checks a battlemaster. I run a 3M with 390xl 2lpl and 6mpl. Blew a timmy's side torsos out last night in two alphas. Its silly fun
