I think you're confused, there is no Crab meta... Peek-a-boo? Uhh...every mech can and does do peek-a-boo sometimes. The idea is that you support advances by firing at angles and not sitting in front of them. There is no definition for it, you just do it naturally.

If you're getting shot and find you die easy, then you need to find another way to attack. The Crab covers all those ways.

Your relatively long exposure time while firing lasers is a detriment because if the enemy decides to focus you instead of the assault, you're dead meat. The hitboxes help but for only so long. Try pulse lasers. The JJ variant has quirks for it and is best used with XL, imo.

If you want to support assaults in a massacre, get a Hunchie or a Cent with AC/20s.
Brawling is not what this mech is designed for. Even Sarna will say that it was to be the ultimate guerilla warfare mech. That means using JJs to hop on top of buildings and shearing the arms off mechs while they're focusing your assaults. I'd say that's supporting the assaults...this has nothing to do with what engine the mech has.

That being said, there are several STD builds already suggested in this thread...other than that, hit up MechSpecs. If you need specific instructions on how to make a skirmisher be a brawler, then you might not be able to handle figuring it out on your own.

STD doesnt seem to be mandatory; as noticed, high rating XLE is alright. When facing the enemy the damage spreads nicely and interestingly arms and legs take their part too(the small size and good acceleration + constant movement allowed by XLE325/350 must help there).

Torso twisting more than 20 degrees or so seems to make basically every received hit go to the exposed side's arm and side torso so theres definitely some great zombie potential there... I've managed to end up as a walking CT several times already, and I've so far only played enough to get the daily double XP for each of my 3 Crabs.

The arm hardpoints are a bit low for peeking... But I think the 27B with XLE325, ERLL in center torso + 5 MLs makes an okay mech.

If someone with premium time wants to try out the Crab's hitboxes in private match I'm at your service.

You can probably take an XL ok, but the Crab loves a standard. If you torso twist you soak up damage amazingly well and just keep on going.

For instance this one reminds me the classic 3erLLShadowhawk.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2c03be78e864f78

While the shadowhawk has high mounted hardpoints, the crab is very tiny at 600-700 metres and have SDT, so it's more durable.

can't compare to the combo of 3 LOL convergence on super high shoulder mount and JJ. You can easily expose LESS with the SHD and it has far better hitboxes.
SHD-2K
slight edge in speed, but for that role it's far less important.

uh what

thats like saying a stalker 4N isnt a meta build because all you can do with it is vomit

you mean the stalker with 3 Missile slots and super high hardpoints that can actually use PPCs?
STK-4N
Let me go slap some missiles on my MetaCrab....oh wait.

Gosh, with a fallacious argument, again. Huh, that's never happened in 3 years....oh wait...that's ALL he's done for 3 years.

One other thing about the STD crab: You can fairly easily fit both Endo Steel and Ferro Fibrous in there and still have enough crit slots left to fill all your hardpoints and then some..

mine does that well. std 250. LPL. 5xML

Got into a nice faceoff with a Nova-S last night on Caustic. Then he shutdown from overheat and I ripped his face off.

Because of this mech's shape, It seems like you would...

*Take an XL if you plan on always face tanking a lot.
*Take a STD engine if you torso twist more frequently.

In general it seems like you would want to face your enemy with the Crab to keep your silhouette small and your side torsos kind of hidden.

Torso twisting just seems like it would make you a far larger target (due to it's insane length), and that side torso would become a large juicy target.

I suppose I won't really know till I spend some good time playing it, but that's just how it looks to me.

yeah, my problem is that if I start staring in my Crab? I'll involuntarily do it in my Centy or Hunchy. That is a bad habit to get into, thus, I'm better off, likely, to STD and twist and shout.

Maybe. Of course, it can also help players who don't torso twist, who won't torso twist, and now they have s mech with a smaller profile to show their enemy.

Besides, I pilot too many mechs to remember how each one should be piloted in the heat of battle anyway. If I had a dime for how many times I torso twisted in my Hunchback the wrong way exposing the hump to the enemy, I'd be a millionaire.

but you see, that is the point, K.I.S.S.

I don't play enough anymore for Pro Level Muscle Memory. So I keep it simple, and keeping it simple is to build all mechs to have as similar of handling characteristics on that stuff as possible. Already gotta keep track of weapon loadouts, jumping, etc.

It's why IRL, with any high stakes profession, you train to do something the same way, all the time, so it's reflex, not thought, because if you have to think, someone dies. Scenarios change around you, introducing enough stress and chaos, your protocols should be ironclad.

Mind you, this isn't high stakes, but it's a good principle.

Might also be why I'm a better HBK jock than you. ;)

title says it all

Current Builds:
CRB-27B
CRB-27SL
CRB-27
CRB-20

considered running this:
CRB-27SL

but let's face it, my VND-1R already runs it better.

I saw one shut down in front of me. I gave it the benefits of 2x C UAC 20 and it died after 80 damage to what I can only assume was its side torso (I'm sure it was damaged by the time I got to it).

So yea, it's looking like it.

The point was that you can do a lot of different builds with the crabs.
STD/XL, short range/medium/long range, wub/no wub, etc.

Still not impressed with mine. Not horribad, but far from impressive, IMO.

If with "not impressive" you mean "not proper for tryhard", I agree, of course.
"not horribad" seems quite "barely tolerable", "quite doa", which is a harsh judgement for Snoopy :)
There are faaaaaaaaaaaar worse medium.
CRB-27b, thanks to 6 hardpoints, is a good medium mech.
Not for hill-peek a la 4P, but side-peek, it has the speed to relocate faster than the 4P, and it also can avoid the "lose the hunch, lose everything" event.

For my standards, it's good, but I'm not a comp./tryhard.
I cannot even tell if those numbers are good, since in the battlefield I see worse pilots than me and also many better pilots than me.
The main issue with Snoopy is that it's boring, so after having mastered 2, I don't know when I'll pilot them again :P

I just wish we were able to choose which variant gets the CBill boost and camo though. Would've much rather had the JJ variant have that.

I cant score as well in the Crabs as I can in HBK, BJ or SHD-2K but OTOH theres still a limited number of games and I only recently unlocked speed tweak. No double basics yet.

All my Crabs have XL engines. So far entire chassis in my stats has

72 games, 34 wins(well below my average ratio, but sample size is small)
~340 average damage(also lower than HBK, BJ, SHD etc. but very likely to climb together with the win %)
75 kills, 39 deaths for 1,92:1 (also very likely to climb)

all stats solo pug play

I'm expecting the usual 60% wins and 370-380 avg damage, 2,5:1 to 3,0:1 K/D in the long run.

Good to okay mech, the small frontal silhouette does indeed help with the lack of quirks.
