  • Screenshot file-names will now use the following format: 'MWO month.day.year-hour.minute.second.'

  • When using regular (alphabetic) sort order, there will be a rollover in January 2016 where sorting gets screwed up.
  • When using regular (alphabetic) sort order, due to the MWO prefix the new screenshots will not be at the end of the directory.
  • 10.06.2015 ... is this 10th of June (the dots suggest the date format used in e.g. Germany) or 6th of October (US format, but with dots instead of slashes)?
  • Spaces in file names require extra care when doing automatic processing.
I can understand why people want "MWO" in the file name, so my suggestion would have been:

MWO-20151006-231245.jpg (MWO-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.jpg)
or to make reading the date/time easier:
MWO-2015-10-06-23.12.45.jpg (MWO-YYYY-MM-DD-HH.MM.SS.jpg)

Thanks for posting this topic, couldn't agree more with this.

Delimiting the MWO, date and time with either space or underscore is better for those using software. I personally prefer the space option as it is easier to read.

Format:
MWO YYYY-MM-DD HH.MM.SS.jpg

MWO_YYYY-MM-DD_HH.MM.SS.jpg

Example:
MWO 2015-10-06 23.12.45.jpg

MWO_2015-10-06_23.12.45.jpg

Cannot agree more to the posts above. Format should be Year,Month,Day for sorting purposes. No one wants to look at screenshots from 2015 interlaced with 2016+ years.

Also would like to note that any of those formats (currently used and proposed ones) do not let you save more that one screenshot per second. Last one always overwrites existing.

Sometimes I spam F12 button to save as many screenshots as possible to make animation afterwards without the need of video capture software running all the time in the background. So I believe it would also be good to have either milliseconds included or a sequence number (if there was already a screenshot with the same name).

FWIW, I agree with this. YMD HMS, with whatever separators seem appropriate for filenames, is not only practical (sorting, international readability) but an actual standard as defined by any number of organisations (ISO).

Good catch re: the one screenshot per second problem though, Mechiro...

Don't know but maybe they could use ticks.
