For those who just want one (or two) of a chassis, I think it'd be a good idea to suggest another way to max out a mech; not to replace the 3 variant system, but to offer an alternative.

I like to have one, rarely two variants of a chassis. I like lots of variety and I assume I'm not the only one. Rather than 3 of the same chassis with different builds I'd rather have 3 different chassis. Omnimechs seem even more redundant in that manner as you can swap omnipods.

What I'd suggest is something like having to unlock the next tier with exp or gexp;

50k-100k exp for Elite and 500k exp for Master?
Or even a mix of exp and c-bills?
Or MC for those who want to do it that way?
Make the ammount vary depending on the weight of the machine?
That way it's still a grind, maybe even more so that grinding the C-Bills the normal way (For the most part), but that way those who prefer a more diverse mechbay can benefit from Mastered mechs.

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks it's a good idea.

I think an alternative is an excellent idea. Really. The 3 mech system has been in so long it may be best to offer and alternative rather than doing away with it. Great idea.

Spending 10M+ Cbills each just to level a single chassis seems exessive, especially when you only have one Mechbay

The 3 chassis thing was implemented to force players to keep playing a particular chassis, to justify the high price tag on mech packs, and to keep old founder players paying for stuff..

Otherwise,the game would not have 200+ mechs, but more like 30+

And the founders would be like: "well, done with that! better go pour my money into WoW or something"

And back when it was first implemented, there were only 4 mechs out... so since then, nobody wanted to mess with that for the above mentioned reasons..
