You had failed see the meaning of those pics. The hardcore/T1 guy ended up having fun because of the challenge and he was smiling at the end. The casual/T5 guy in the end was left wanting for something more.

Or possibly tier 5 guy was relaxed and content...... where tier 1 guy is a psychopath? ;)

Art. It's interpretation lies in the eye of the beholder.

stop playing with or against Jman5. Bet the number halves. ;)

Also, just a tip: Usually if a comment is started with a phrase like "silly rabbit", the following dialogue is generally not intended as serious, or is meant as hyperbole, with a touch of truth.

*NOT* the slide to have in your power point argument if one wishes to be taken seriously.

Probably because Tier 1 actually is a lot less meaningful a separator in MM than Elo used to be. It's been demonstrated that by just not sucking, and playing a ton of matches, anyone, even a LRM overlord like Bandito can nab a Tier 1 badge. Also, plenty of Tier 3 players run them, etc. Sadly Tier 1 does not actually mean the same as "comp player".

Early indications seem to be that the Tiering protects the new guys and total scrubs from having to be stomped by Comps, but do precious little to maintain the purity of the air up there on Mt Tryhard, where anyone can now gain "forum badge admission" simply by grinding long enough.

Thanks Obama?

Psychopaths are never content. Too easily bored, apparently.

Plus in all fairness, most of those on here would more closely conform to sociopathy, not psychopathy. The petty forum rage, epeen compensation, etc, is a pretty good indicator that most are not psychopaths.

Neither actually know contentment, though.

If you want to frame it that way, then that is too tall an order for a huge amount of players, actually. Not that you can't immensely enjoy the game even if you "suck".

It quantity to increase tiers, not quality. Well, the quality bar is set pretty low. Win and do mediocre, more than you lose and abjectly suck, you tier will build. With the current system, within a year I would expect to see the hallowed tier 1 quite filled. There is not time limit, just grind.

Yes there will always be Tier 5 guys. Guys who rambo, run really really bad builds, refuse to adapt, etc. We all know some. To this day I have a former teammate who runs slow assaults, whose only tactic is Leroy Jenkins, and every match, two years into playing, he dies from LRMs, then complains that LRMs are OP. When the problem is, he refuse to acknowledge the reality of the game, that running a slow mech outside of cover, not twisting, etc, is just bad play. AKA, refuse to adapt.

Outside of that mindset, most people will see their tiers slowly rise. And for the causal crowd, as it gets higher, and they start facing more and more meta, their enjoyment and contentment levels are, on average going to decrease.

Simple as that.

Many will make tier 1, as there are lots of tier 1 players that, while still generally better tactically, strategically, with better twitch skills than lower tiers, and have time to grind (which is itself practice that improves skill), are still not great players.

But, many have already plateaued before reaching tier 1 or have been dropping since their initial placement. The number of poorly skilled players (not that there is anything wrong with that) who reach a low or mediocre skill plateau in any video game I have played far out numbers the skilled players.

So I do not believe that "most" (51%+) of the fairly large MWO player base is going to end up in tier 1 compared to tiers 2-5, especially as bad players will see their scores drop as their tiers rise. That is mathematically unlikely. Time will tell.

Don't have a choice. My main is "unavailable" for a few days. Also, I am a high quality troll. B)

Well, for the trolly parts. The other parts, I believe to be accurate. If you are refuting my previous post, I believe you are calling McGral18 a troll, actually, not myself. Or my alt, Or whatever.

I'll tell you the difference between T1 and T5... it is real simple:

Most players in T5 dont care about stats, or about the "W", and they certainly dont take "meta" mechs and lasers every drop. Also, the players in T5 dont game the game and they ultimately enjoy the variety the different mechs and weapons have to offer.

Most of them also know that this is a game and no matter how good your score or rank, it can't be put on a resume'. It ultimately means jack.

So there ya have it.

It was for my own amusement. I am, sometimes, easily amused.

It's nothing serious or personal. Just forum shenanigans.

That is partially true. But, judging from the huge amount of people in tiers 2 and 3 that have poor FPS-game ability, many people in tier 5 are there due to their ability. MWO has a fairly high learning curve compared to most FPS games. It does not have the skill ceiling of counter-strike 1.6 or GO by any means, but it is far beyond COD, which has a business model that relies on being casual-gamer friendly.
