Have the developers released any images of buildings or fort like structures? Back in my days hanging out with Martin Luther King and Whitney Houston, I had a dream of a Mech game with fort-like structures. Very simple structures, like WW2 forts, with huge, thick, solid concrete walls.

I always wanted to park a Mech on a concrete slab and just think about stuff.

Why's that slab there? I don't know. But I wanna stand on it like a giant robot guard. Standing and posing your Mech is more interesting than combat, I think. I think maps should have areas where I can stand and look cool whilst contemplating.

You like JayMZ? I got more disturbing stuff, check your PMs.

I just realized the Dev's have released a new video (Frozen City). There seems to be some concrete structures there which I can stand on, but they don't necessarily seem to be forts.

Off Topic: the new image/light/sensor enhancements look great. Far beyond the "enhanced imaging" options in MW3 and 4. MW2 style Wire-Frames are still the best, though, or maybe I'm just nostalgic.

you are correct mw2 was easier to see than mw4's enhanced imaging.

I do like the maps with things like that. Would also be great if there were turrets and dropships that we could shoot. I miss shooting turrets and dropships.

I'm sorry to correct you but the picture you show is a fortress from the ~18th century and during WW2 there where almost no fortresses build. Not in that way like during the centuries before. I know there are some exeptions.
(sorry I felt like I had to write this)
Never the less I agree with you that it could be a cool idea.
On the other hand the claninvasion showed that a fortified warfare got its weakpoints.
Therefore I would be suprised I MWO wil have such a map. It's too close to the Clan invasion.

Otherwise it could be a cool way to show the superiority of the clans when they launch them.
Or maybe the Jadefalcon attac during the Fedcom civil war...

Opportunities... opportunities everywhere... :)

There seemed to be palace fortifications in MW4. I think that's not a bad idea. Fortifications kind of make sense from a mech-combat perspective.

In Living Legends, there tend to be walls around important factories and stuff. Challenging battles usually erupt around the choke points, or inside those "fortresses".

You have a ... very strong imagination and/or poor grasp of reality and definately time {Marting Luther King = 50's, Whitney Houston = 90's, Battletech introduced = 80's}.

In answer to your question regardless, Rules concerning 'Mech Forts' = Cover mechanics [specifically those described in Urbantech rules + Buildings + Cover] and unlikely that they are implemented in MW:O as they would be considered destructable environments or they could be indestructable Map 'features' but thats unlikely as the mechs are different sizes and be a source of glitches/exploits and other problems [clipping, falling thru the map, etc.].

In the genre there are several levels of fortifications. You're talking about major groundworks of the kind that surround major installations. Their primary purpose is to prevent ground units from getting into slugging range with defenders or delicate buildings. LRM's and field artillery pretty much ignore this stuff, but to get direct fire over it, you either need to assault a gate or use VTOL or jump jet units.

The notable ones are referred to in canon as "Castle Brian" fortifications. They're largely underground and designed to be relatively impregnable to ground assault, orbital bombardment, and even nuclear weapons. Read up on them here...

I remember in the Novel BloodName there is a siege of a walled Jade Falcon camp in the first part. -So for MWO to have an assault or siege would be realistic (Within the Battletech Universe).

Personally I think and assault or siege map would be fun/cool if balanced. :)

If there are fortifications, it would probably more of a Castle Brian (on Terra) than anything else.

This is how I imagine Btech forts. Like WW2 bunkers, with fortified, PPC absorbing asbestos-free barricades.

Definitely should have spots where mechs can defilade - not necessarily "forts" as such but areas dug out here you can use the terrain as armor and only expose arm and torso spots to fire.

'Course with mech design, defilade is not as useful as it is with tanks which can affor to hide the majority of the vehicle and only expose the turret. On the other hand its a great place to put LRM carriers - just leave enough head exposed to target and then indirect-fire your missiles from safety.

Would be cool. MW3 was full of little fortifications peppered around the maps, some of them little more than outposts, some of them kinda impressive(the arctic map, the spaceport...)
