....now they have granted us a sale on them instead.

I like this new sale model of a mech a month, but it seems they are clawing back instead of granting what we were already accustomed to.

Intentional? Malicious?

I think it's because of the "value" of the packs. Assaults are "worth" more so you get less goodies on the side. It's consistent with the MC pricing.

Just another benefit of single mech packs.

Depends on your perspective. If you want all of the mechs buying the full packs like Wave1 etc. was the much better value. If you are only interested in one or two mechs out a of a selection then this new setup is worthwhile, but it really isn't a better value in my opinion. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't do another big pack like they said they would and continued with new system. Just another reason not spend money on the game I guess, but hey more power to them.

New player income + shrinking player base income - cost of developement = need more money

Basically, they are making changes to the game in hopes of retaining current players, attracting new players, and bringing back old players. That costs money. How do you make money after the mech pack fever is over? Customization options. Nobody will spend money on colors and skins if you give them away with every mech pack.

PGI is working hard to make sure you enjoy the game less and less.

You don't retain players by clawing back anything and everything in regards to a "perk" for buying into mech packs. They have neglected improving the quality of their premium time to retain players or attract new ones. Denying what was free part of the old mech packs isn't some kind of PGI saving maneuver.

Maybe they'll grace us with some more polygon camo as an early adopter reward. Because the first camo ever put in the game makes me love them more.

Since they decided that of the Omnis available, that the current ones available were an even worse than normal mix for a jumbo pack, you would prefer they went and forced a pack with what, a Fire Falcon, Viper, Night Gyr and King Fisher or some other mixed pack of drek mechs?

They need to reevaluate the cost of the collectors pack, and if people would stop buying them, I think they would. Of course, the fact that they aren't reevaluating the collectors packs, implies that people are buying them...so why should they?

That said, a pair of Jumbo Packs would make immenent sense before they finally do a timeline jump. Sell a 4 pack each of "new tech" clan and IS mechs, to buy themselves the 4 months or so they need to implement and QA the new tech weapons, etc.

SO much lol in that logic.
Try your logic with the Phoenix-Hawk and Viper pack.

.
.

Didn't work?

Single mech packs are a pathetic effort to sell the same mech with double (even triple) price (40$ + 15$ + 15$)... and without any goodies such as 20+ colors or 4-6 patterns.

On top of that... the packs lose 1/3rd of their value after 1 month of announcement!

I would even settle for a progressive counter on how many of the packs you get. When you get to 4 for example,it drops the faction camp and colours for them.

The lack of colors and paint schemes is a definite downside to me of this new system which I'm otherwise on board with.

It was the early adopter... and it was just 1 pattern!

If you buy the Kodiak now... there is no pattern... NOTHING!... with the same price!

Like I said I was disappointed(doesn't mean it was the wrong choice on their part), but at the same time they did release the Viper and Night Gyr packs, and if you add in the King Fisher which I see requested rather frequently you already have three out of four of the mechs for a complete pack. I think they could have done it just fine but chose to stick to the new model, which in my opinion value wise for us isn't as good.

I agree, but I do admit to buying the Collectors for the Kodiak because I have wanted that mech from the beginning and I rather liked the unique paint on the (s) variant. That being said I also cringed when I clicked the button.

Yeah, that would make a lot of sense. I'm just not sure they would do it at this point because they seem to really like this new model.

The trick is to give people "more value for money" by providing players with stuff that they can buy for C-bills and/or stuff that is cheap for PGI to make.

Making people buy faction camo means you can cover more of the costs for creating faction camo.

Giving people modules and C-bills doesn't put a huge dent in MC sales.

Premium time does cut into MC sales, but I really don't think a lot of people are buying Premium time these days anyway.

They stopped creating mechs with custom geometry because they realized most players were happy to get a bunch of C-bills and modules instead.

It's bad for players like you and me, maybe. It's great for the "more value for money" crowd.
