I had a love/hate relationship with it before the hit-box fix... but yeah, now i love it.
Looks really great and works well: what more can you ask for?

Like your camos Alistair! Especially the FRR one looks awesome!

As for the mech I find it quite alright but I still think the Grasshopper is a bit better - higher hardpoints (P), thinner and jumpjets.

It's my goto heavy, looks good and feels great to drive. Handles like an enlarged Enforcer.

I love it too, the 6B with 9 MPL's just clicks for me.
It's just wonderful to core an assault in 3 hits via the CT :D

Cool Alister, I'm glad the BK is working out so well for you. It's cool when a mech works well (especially when it looks as spectacular as the BK). Plus a bit fun when it is happening in a mech not seen as "good" by the community.

Me, I tend to get a bit too frustrated when piloting the BK myself. The BK 6 [R] after 20 matches is a 2.67, but the 6B is 0.47 and the 7 is 1.07.

I think I could tweak the other models to do well, but the mech doesn't excite me enough to try. It's those darn hard point locations. It just doesn't fit my style of play. Oddly the Ilya does well for me, but the dakka effect is probably mostly to blame for that :).

In any case, I'm glad it is being a powerhouse for you. It sounds like you might have found a goto heavy that works really well you (and an awesome looking ride at that).

You have to use maths, hacking and psycho-history.

Over 2000 years ago, Plato proved beyond doubt that material objects are simply reflections of eternal, perfect ideas. According to his scientific theories, beauty is closely connected to the idea of goodness, which is the highest of all ideas and the source of all virtues. The nature of ideas were determined to be absolute and constant, beyond our concepts of relativity. As such, the beauty of the Black Knight is beyond discussion, as it can be measured in absolute terms compared to how well it matches with the idea of perfect beauty.

In other words, you are wrong and your views of mech beauty betray your lack of appreciation of the finer aspects of gundam aesthetics and philosophy.

Chapeau!

Then you will love the Battlemasters. It is everything the Wubknight wants to be, and more. Buy it next, or wait for the eventual BLR Mastery Pack. Plus there is less queue wait time for Assaults.
And Hellslinger is just so damn sexy.

I think this is going to be my first and final adventure into massive MPL boating. To be quite frank, I feel much better about the 6-KNT stats than the 6B-KNT stats. The 6B is just me walking through hell and high water to push my PSR to Tier 1 as quickly as possible. But it's actually easy mode a lot of the time. In some matches, I'm just cutting down opponents left and right because they all think the BK is easy prey and haven't really considered what 53 pinpoint damage every 3 seconds will do to their mechs. Wubwub laservomit in this game is easy mode, and I'm just exploiting it right now to get to Tier 1, because PGI invented this levelling system that requires hundreds or thousands of matches to reach the highest tier.

I take much more pride in doing well my 6-KNT, which is armed with 2PPC+5ML, a much less optimal build in the current meta.

Once I get to Tier 1, I look forward to bringing out my old toys, such as the Awesomes, the Ravens, the Catapults and maybe my Centurions. Maybe I'll try to get from Tier 2 to Tier 1 in my GRF-2N. Another mech that people underestimate.

I quite like the Battlemaster, but if I bought them, I would make it my mission to find a way of using something close to stock armament. PPC, lasers, missiles and, so help me God, I would always keep those 2 MGs in the arm, which mostly people sadly strip off. :)

I'm curious: do you have Battlemaster 3S, or 1G, or Banshee 3M, or hopper 5P?
'cause I'm pretty sure all of them can do it better.
Also, I'm quite sure that without that flashing white camo your ratio would double! :D

I know they can all do it better. That's the joy of using the Black Knight - beating people with a mech they perceive as inferior.
You're probably right about the camo though. Even on the maps where it should actually work as camo, like Alpine and Frozen colony, the weird rendering of MWO makes my mech stand out just as much as every other mech. But it's too pretty and I've been running all white since 2012, so there's no going back now :)

Yea, but I'm still curious about your stats piloting 3S, 1G, etc. because, theoretically, you should add that hill peeking ability that the low Black Knight's hardpoints don't allow.
Or consider to buy them, it should be interesting.

I did play the ACH's with close to meta builds. One 6SL build, one 4ML build and one 5SPL+1MG build. That's probably the closest thing I've been to tier 1 mech meta builds lately, and I was hitting ~2.0 WLR and ~4.0 KDR. I don't put too much stock in it. I know I'm not a great player, when matched up against the best. And to be fair, maybe the people I was beating were actually better pilots than me, except they were piloting sub-optimal mechs and sub-optimal builds for fun. A lot of people simply rejected the ACH because it was easy mode, which I also did after a while.

Maybe I'm just playing sub-optimal mechs because I need that excuse to protect my ego when I lose. :D

In regards to the hill peeking ability though, I actually find that the BK's ability to peek with its head only can be a bit useful if you're careful. If you're only exposing the tip of your helmet, you can usually look over cover while being almost completely protected. Because the terrain hitboxes in MWO are crap and there are invisible walls everywhere. Who needs 3PV? :D

TLDR: The Griffin is the sexiest mech in this game.

In my experience playing a 75T heavy mech with such a limited range capability can have huge streaks of matches where it doesn't feel anything like easy mode.

I can't imagine T3 & T2 match making is that wildly different, but that's just my experience..

I love the look of the black knight. I love the way it feels when you pilot it. However, grinding it was incredibly frustrating. The stupid low hard points caught every piece of landscape in the game. Shooting up at someone? Nope. Shooting down at someone? Nope. Shooting directly at someone on even ground, possibly.

Grats on being a good pilot and/or fighting a crappy one. Heck there is still a good chance that some people havn't even basic'd them yet.

Also I can melt crabs down with my BlackKnight. Guess crabs suck... <_< Hard to really form an opinion that way, wouldn't you agree?

In all honesty I like the entire lot of Resistance mechs. B) Looking forward to the Wolfhound. ^_^

I am still working on mastering the 4 BKs that I own. After I saw this thread (this morning) I logged in to check my own stats on them. Alistair is on to something here...turns out that all four variants are of my best statistical performers for wins and kills. I am shocked as I have felt that the slog of mastering these mechs has been a bit of a chore, as I never had a stretch of matches that left a lingering feeling of "Hell ya!" Moreover, I have felt from the moment they were released that I could make just as good of builds with T-bolts or even QKD-5Ks as I could with any of the BK variants. Well, regardless of the build equivalence (or lack there of), this is a heck of a mech for me. Stats don't lie.

Oh, it's definitely up there. The GRF-2N is one of my most favourite mechs in the game. Drop dead gorgeous, with 1 missile launcher on each side torso. ECM. Jump jets. And fast, like the wind. It's got everything.

The only frustrating thing is SRM hitreg, and the fact that PPCs are too hot to combine with missiles. Which is pretty much the whole point of the Griffin. But it works well as a laser+SRM boat.

My Clan account is T2, and I would say there's not much of a difference. Maybe T1 is different, but I'm starting to doubt it. I see quite a few T1 players in my bracket and they're hardly l33t overlords sent down from above to scourge the underhive. They're consistently better, but not by a huge margin. Not unless you're talking about the competitive players who are confirmed l33t.

Any specialist mech, whether it's a long range or a short range build, tends to be a bit more vulnerable to losing streaks. It's the same if you're an MPL boat or a dual gauss jager. You can be unlucky and get a series of matches which simply do not match your playstyle. More versatile mechs aren't as vulnerable to that.

Yeah, it can be frustrating. You can't really look up to shoot at UAVs either. That's why I like the 6-KNT with dual AMS :)

I somewhat like/dislike the Blackknight, it does alot of damage but still even after the hitbox fix, I am finding, no amount of torso twist allows me from getting too much CT damage. With max engine on it, to prevent you being 1st to be targetted, so i can run and get cover in need of a lightshow. I would think that it would be op if it came with JJ. Still think the grasshopper is better. But it is fun when running with pulse as the damage score jumps from 600 +

My Resistance BK with all MPL, dual AMS, BAP and max XL engine hold my highest match score, just over 600.

Fun mech to run.
