I don't even know what to Google here, and since I'm under the impressions there're plenty of veterans here, I'm gonna stab in the dark:

Anyone here who used to worked on tank, or any ground vehicle bigger than a HMMWV? Or helicopter, for that sake?

I'm trying to create my own version of mech boot-up sequence and I want to mix in a bit of military vehicle 101 for the sake of authenticity, for making it it sound more science-fiction than science-fantasy. Any past experience/daily routine/whatever is appreciated. Or if you could point me somewhere on the interweb that has anything like this, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I am a former Tanker, and tank mechanic, what is it you are wanting to know??

A typical start up sequence would be to turn on main or primary power. This sometimes entails a loud "clunk" as the system safeties connect. Then you would go for engine start and the engine would start to whine, then there is a decent "thump" as the engine gets to a self sustaining speed. Then the "whoosh" of the engine at idle speed. Add to this the hydraulic accumulators going, and it can be a little noisy. That's for a turbine equipped tank, a diesel powered one doesn't make as much noise firing up, it just starts with a nice meaty bass.

Anything you wanna tell! Like, what would you do for a field-maintenance? How long it would take? How often do you need to do a full-strip? How many ppl are in the maintenance crew?

Or, things like, any inside joke about Abrams (since you mentioned turbine engine), or specific things you'd complain about (like, for example, how Apache's engine was designed for Siberian weather and don't cope well with sand)? I might be asking for a lot so whatever you'd like to say.

Or, at least, if there's any key words I can google if I wanna learn more.

Couldn't find any for tanks.
