I for one am driving myself to distraction imagining myself playing MechWarrior Online while the London Summer Olympic Games are on.

I could just see a whole bunch of 'Mechs doing Olympic events, too.

Well they already have a working engine from the 2009 promo video. All they have to do is dig out the pseudo-code and type it up for Cry3. That's the big meaty part. Right now they are probably building features and content.

This is sarcasm right? No? Really?

Are there still people who exist on these boards that thing that movie from 2009 was actual gameplay? It was a rendered scene...It was a demo to drum up excitement.......

The danger with launching a bare bones games, is that it's so bare bones you kill off your player base before you can flesh the game out. World of Tanks being the obvious comparison here, they in some ways went the opposite end having a very long open beta. In fact I'd argue their open beta was so long that it burned a fair number of people out. Still once the game was launched it was verrrry polished (even if still somewhat limited in scope).
Better off having a polished game with good core systems in place that could be constantly updated with mechs and maps as fast as the art people could kick em out with the occasional major gameplay update.

Summer 2012 was the first thing to be posted ... Back when the site went live!

Thats right isn't it? or is my age showing?

You're old (it's ok I'm old too) :P

The FAQ says this -
Q. When will we get more info on MechWarrior® Online™'s gameplay and release date?

A. We will release information when it becomes available. We are going to be working closely with everyone in the community as well so information will be steady as we go through development. The exact release date is still to be determined but it will be in 2012!

*edit* oh yeah and the presser from Nov 1st -
MechWarrior Online is set to launch in the second half of 2012 from newly formed digital publisher, Infinite Game Publishing.

Which I was ok with (thinking holidays late 2012), then I saw the news on the homepage scoller and it says summer 2012 and I was like 'whaaaaa?'
