Hi there!
So, after waiting a long time for the Warhammer to come back on virtual battlefields, when I saw PGI art for the coming 'Mech, I was kinda let down. I think that was mostly because, before PGI version, I saw the new Catalyst Warhammer:
which I find so much more likeable, since it's closer to the original model we all know. So, I was wondering: how many of you prefer the Catalyst model over PGI's?
And (I know, I'm dreaming), if we're actually a majority, since there is time and there's already a model, would PGI change their one and use Catalyst's? After all, I thought Mr. Bullock wanted to have a visual continuity across the modern Battletech universe... shouldn't that mean having only one Warhammer model (the one I'm showing you, of course! )?
After all, this is what Black Lady should look like!
EDIT: The Black Lady repaint is by Viereth (Mark Hayedn)

EH.
Truth to tell, while Shim's version is pretty good, there were always things that felt OFF about it to me.
1) The arms. The massive shoulder pauldrons to beefy, Schwarzenegger Biceps, to the comparatively "whippy" looking PPC barrels compared to the rest of the arm
2) The very high, exposed cockpit
3) The Legs....can't pin it down, but there is just something wonky (IMO) about them. Remind me of a dude in armored pants.
I like it like...85%....which is more than I can say for his traditional Marauder (do like the new official one quite a bit more, though it still feels stiff)
Now, here, is the "Real" Warhammer.
Skinny upper arms, large beam tubes (compared to the rest of the arms) Hunched, recessed head/cockpit, heavy, dynamically proportioned legs, big feet, and the torso weapons it cramped, tight little clusters, hugging the CT.
Now, we have Alex's version:
Much less pronounced shoulders, hunched, recessed cockpit, weapons clustered close to the CT, legs with meatier, more dynamic proportions (though would still like bigger feet, but Alex has always had a thing fro small hands and feet. Maybe it's a fetish)
Only real knock is the gate-hinge elbows, and the lack of a counter weight, exhaust vent on the back of the elbows to visually proportion them better. But Russ intimated those were one of the details intentionally left off to get it past the Harmony Gold censors.
Mind you, taste is subjective, a are looks, despite people trying to push the "golden ratio" for millennia (I actually find faces that fit that ratio to be rather boring, on average), ignoring that when it comes to application for aesthetics and beauty, it's still a philosophy and not a scientific fact. People are drawn to it as a base line that more people can agree to than not, but it is not, in itself, the hard rule descriptor of beauty because none such universal law exists (unlike say....gravity). I prefer the philosophy of Wabi-sabi.

It's the perceived imperfections that accentuate the beauty of something by casting contrasts.
So while, you may like the CGL version better, I would argue that the PGI version is actually truer to the source material.
