Since LRM's are always a hot topic and there is someone new saying "LRM's are OP"

Why not introduce a new module to the Academy where the player must learn to use cover, ECM, or AMS to dodge /reduce and evade missile locks? Or it could simply be a modification of the existing Gauntlet module.

This may reduce a some/a lot of grief on the forums for new players who seem think LRM's are unstoppable.

The solution is easy - lrm boats are the job of light mechs, because lrm mechs are extremely weak at close range. Lights shoud strike, don't hide and shoot from the back of assaults, but cut down the weak points of enemy. Even spooky dire wolf with dakka-dakka can't stand against 3 light mechs.

This is so not true or based on game or Battletech mechanics. I suggest you take a look at the iconic Archer, Bombardier, Salamander, Longbow and Viking, to name a few heavier mechs. Timberwolf and Vulture are stock omni's that have default missile racks. Clan LRM's have no minimum and do just as much damage as they would at long range. See Sarna.net for more reference information.

Against 3, no... no mech can.. 90% of times

But I was pleasantly surprised that yesterday, I actually managed to survive that!

I was playing my new favorite build for my Executioner, a build I have lovingly labeled "Torch".

Its 9 x CSML + 2 x CLRM10...

A raven approached me, thinking me a dumb, slow, defenseless missile boat.. wrong!

Those small lasers melted him in litterally 2-3 shots.

His two other spider and firestarter buddies actually broke off, and fled..

It felt sooooo gooood :D

But yeah, the basics of LRM combat and LRM countering should be a topic of interest in the Training Academy.

New players need to learn how to use LRM's effectively, and how to counter them. LRM's are a huge part of combat, and so this would be a great idea..

bump. This needs to be added to the Academy tutorial before we have more threads in the New Player section about OP-LRMS.

The new player tutorials are lacking many types of strategic basic training, including this.

If they do the LRM training (attack and defence), then I hope they continue on to doing more like ECM/AMS sharing, peeking, poptarting, etc.

In fact, they could start by doing a specific attack/defence training tutorial for each type of weapon, then move on to more advanced tactics.

Well in pug lrm depends on the failure of the target.
The academy hardly can teach situational awareness -

you don't have to fear the lrm boat fear the pure brawler in the first line.

Problem is with all the ammo you can't evade lrm all the time - getroffen fixed by lrm there will be a guy for the finish (fix flank finish) its basic infantry tactic but its 200% true when it comes to LRMs
