I see what PTS has become, and I find the translation from user suggestions to implemented changes to be...fascinating.

http://mwomercs.com/...le-its-amazing/

Pretty simple, right? No lock, convergence is to a default long-distance point that ends up spreading all weapons out a bit. Popular topic of discussion.

PTS now: No lock? Lasers do less damage at distance. No real effect on anything else. I can see Paul's reading our ideas, but I have no idea where the final results are coming from.

We keep getting strange mechanics to nerf the flavor of the month (or whatever problem gets yelled about enough), rather than attempts to look at the fundamentals or even take the next step.

I ain't even mad- just wondering why we keep getting attempts that simply break the flavor of the month vs. actual broader balance.

The answer is that this is the mentality exhibited by a large part of the forum, so the devs end up making decisions that way as well.

Yup. You had a great idea. They took the shell, ripped out the part that made it great, shoved it back into the game with plenty of Paul as the creamy filling.

Part of it also is that no one there knows how to fiddle with the convergence code. That guy left along time ago, and they dont have any real programmers anymore.

Hence the changes we have being quirks that create "infotech" and not an actual underlying sensor system. Its a hack job. Theyre taking someone elses code, and basically amateurs, are hacking it to get what they want done, instead of actually creating entirely new code.

Happens alot unfortunately. A company hires the talent to get all the base work done, boots those guys, hires cheaper less talented guys to maintain it and essentially hack it, to keep the changes and additions coming.

Theyve fiddled with it before and broke stuff terribly, and it was linked to hitreg issues and packet bloat. Im sure they dont want to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Not even the pilot skill related to it. Ripping it out probably breaks something.

They can always play with values. Thats easy.

Well, people were calling it Lazor-Vomit, clearly indicating that lasers needed some nerfing (and in my opinion all damage in general needs a nerf, while all ranges need a boost, but I am weird).

So, yeah, they semi-nerfed lasers because that is what is popular right now. Maybe we'll see more guns and missiles? We can hope.

Also, I think they can still add The Wanderer Convergence trick as another incentive in case we need it.

However, lets not forget that the Convergence with a lock idea might have some un-intended consequences, such as promoting less boating and a move towards having builds that rely on a handful of big weapons to make aiming without a lock easier, and unintentionally boosting mechs with closely mounted hardpoints.

Still, it might be worth a try.

Also, there is another idea of only having SOME mechs have the convergence problem. Under performing mechs like the Locust could continue as we currently do things with weapon convergence.

P.S. They may not even bother with the nerfs. The PTS may show it to be a horrible idea.
