Before you read on please be aware that I wholeheartely support the ECM change. However, some concerns arose these days while leveling my Wolfhound which has no ECM.

The leveling process is often frustrating as soon as you have any kind of close-range weaponry (which is mostly the case) on the mech because you face the realy fun killers like...

1. LRM spam
Too bad that you have to abandon your attack run (which is risky enough already as it is with all the laser fire) or get shredded to pieces by LRM fire - eating even more shots while you are forced to withdraw. Even worse that even a few salvos will sandblast your armour pretty thin.

2. Streaks
Sorry, but some were funny persons use Scarecrows with 3-5 Streak SRM6 currently because they know the newly bought ACHs and Wolfhounds are unmastered and even easier to kill. Too bad that the Crows aren't really slow so if you get unlucky and they appear in your range while you are busy you eat usually 2 salvos - which can already be the end. They are pretty much hardcounters to lights and also dangerous to meds.

Now the change to ECM. What is left to curb the LRMgeddon or the SSRM? Especially the latter is a hardcounter for light mechs. And honestly, just running away is no solution and no fun just because a dude equips a weapon system which does not even require him to aim.

The light queue is very low for a very good reason...

If you're using ECM on the live servers to counter Streaks, then there is a good chance their Bap will counter it. So, in that regard, the PTS and live are the same.

If they don't have bap, or you are out its range, then the PTS ECM still provides you 3 secs before they can begin to get a target lock. Should be enough time to exit, stage left even.

Now, if you are looking for a game where once you get into combat you never have to make a fighting withdrawel, then you might find MWO a little lacking. MWO rewards those who know when to disengage. Mediums, especially streak equipped ones, counter lights, their natural prey. Heavies and assualts prey on mediums, especially streak equipped ones since they can not focus fire onto a single component and take down the heavier mech before it eats em alive.

As for LRMs, if you find yourself having trouble with em, equip an AMS and work on your tactical positioning.
