So, while it might not be hitting the mark yet, please keep it up. Iterate, iterate and iterate MORE! Keep throwing out ideas until you find out which ones are keepers and which ones are stinkers.

Well still, this game needs help regardless. There are so many things that need to be fixed and balanced, so if they keep doing these iterations we could find a good solid gem from the rubble.

A lot of dynamics changed with the introduction of clan tech and clan mechs. It's not surprising that a serious overhaul is necessary especially considering hit box and hit reg improvements (except SRMs) over the last year.

Game changed so much outside of balance, you really think those don't need to be adjusted from time to time? Or even overhauled when you bring in clans for example? C'mon.

I also appreciate the opportunity, and the apparent PGI willingness to listen to feedback. I know the track record for doing that isn't the best, but they are engaging with the playerbase (albeit through twitter and proxies) far more than we've seen for the last year or two.
TBH, there's absolutely nothing PGI can do to prevent backlash for changes to the game. Bump LRM damage by 0.1 and everyone loses their minds. Implement something that someone likes and it'll be something that someone else despises. Make any change other than the things that many forum stalwarts have been campaigning about forever and it's 'a worthless change' by PGI.
Personally, once I realized weapon quirks were left out of the last PTS simply because they just wanted to test the information warfare segment, I saw the whole thing in a new light. Despite the armchair analysis, I actually enjoyed the system. There was less camping. There was more maneuvering. Heck, in one fight, our forces blundered into each other, and that never happens in normal games! There was a comical pause of surprise before everyone opened fire in a panic, and it was GLORIOUS. Games were far more brawly, and I was absolutely out of my peek'n'shoot comfort zone - which by no means is a bad thing.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this one goes, because I'm far less concerned that this test is just a precursor to rolling out their changes anyway - i really think they're going to listen to feedback. Russ especially would be mad not to after the backlash from the last one.

Then the question is:
How can they balance appropriately based on one's ideas?
That's not being biased, which everyone would highlight.
"Oh they favor X Person! Wahhhhh!!!"
At least that's how'd I see it happening if they did. However, if they get data as a whole and on top of that everyone's opinion, they can decide which ideals for the games are feasible and which are not.
So yes, if it helps fix the game I'd gladly be a guinea pig, everyone's entitled to their own opinion you know?

That is why these changes are only on the Private Test Server. This is not the core game and doesn't affect anyone expect those willing and wanting to voluntarily do the test. I don't feel throwing out the "This isn't beta" argument actually means anything in this context.

You left off the critical corollary: once you determine which are the keepers and which are the stinkers, don't keep the stinkers. Y'know, like the ECM we've had for literal years.

Actually i think i will like this iteration ( downloading now ), on paper, it looks like the so called "infotech" will have a deep impact in mech roles, making spotters a viable role. The new ECM behaviour and laser nerfs look promising too, i expect an increase in TTK for long range engagements, the return of brawling and an improvement in LRM effectiveness.
GR may still be a problem, but since it won't be GR+Laser vomit, at least the problem is reduced.
