I don't think we've ever had TAG out-range the sensor suite on a 'Mech before: What should that mean?
If I TAG in an Awesome at ~700m, well outside the 500 an assault is supposed to have, am I entitled to the targets' TO&E and paper doll, or should it be limited to what a UAV could tell someone whom otherwise has no LoS?

Wow, great observation. I didn't even pick that up.
I guess it depends on what TAG is, I guess. If it's like the lasers used today to guide smart bombs, then I would say it won't help you detect or get information from a mech. It's simply a targeting mark for missiles to follow. But if you can't target them because of range, then how are your team mates supposed to fire locked missiles?

Interesting. Even after the info stuff we saw is added back in I think it will outrange most assaults by a little.
Might just have to go with magic, or that its an advanced sonar laser or some such thing.

It does tie into the on-board targeting and tracking systems, so it could work to increase gaining Target Info and boosting Range by some amount, so maybe a few tweaks are in order, set the base range back to 500 M, but then like AP/BAP, it too can boost range.
And then Lights and Mediums can use quirks to boost TAG ranges back up to their sensor ranges.
Here's a description too:
