I like the Single Heat Sink dissipation increase. It's hard playing old tech without any heat reduction quirks, but the slight increase make using SHS more viable for me and allows me some slightly better weapon configs.

its better than it was, but its still better in every way to get DHS. better dissipation, and weight savings.

Yeah 1.1 isnt going to do it. Its a nice start, but SHS need to be a legit alternative, and not a tax. However not so high that you you can pile 30 of them into an Assault and get a heat neutral mech with serious firepower.

1.3 in engine, 1.2 out should do it.

I am confused as to why they upgraded SHSs. I had thought them money sinks up until this point. But if the IS were to get a 'legitimate alternative to DHS' then that would just make 3/4 of every IS mech 1.5 million Cbills cheaper, which means less need for selling Premium Time.

Ive never once bought premium time. Ive got dozens of mastered chassis. Its simply a tax imposed on certain IS mechs and a "hah you suck" period built into them, as well as putting noobs into crap trial machines that arent worth dropping in.

If SHS arent viable...remove them entirely :P

You cant just make life hard on players in an effort to convince (extort) them to purchase Premium time which is the worst deal in the history of deals. Ive seen fake bridges with more value.

Plenty of games that are designed like MWO have 'must have upgrades' for new vehicles (tanks being the most common). I am not saying I agree with it, but it would be a HUGE change to IS mechs, the economy, and the NPE. Clan players might demand they have access to cheaper heatsinks as well, if they are actually made viable. Why spend for Clan DHS is CSHS are just as good?

Just a thought. Not like adding .1 really changed them all that much...

SHS weren't intended to be better than DHS, but their effectiveness needed to be increased for people who are running trials or levelling. I was playing around with my Awesome 9M. I'm mastered, so I get the additional 15% heat reduction.

Running a Standard 300 Engine, I can equip 13 extra DHS on it. Testing in Caustic Valley, I fire both ER PPCs at the same time. The heat jumps to 42% and it takes 7.2 seconds to cool down to its normal 3%.

With a Standard 300 Engine, I can equip 29 SHS. I was able to use Endo Steel, and had to drop my BAP and 1/2 ton of armor. Test firing both ER PPCs in Caustic Valley, the heat jumps to 45% and it takes 8.9 seconds to cool down to its normal 4%.

So, for SHS, I don't consider that bad, but since I could fit 9 SHS in the side torso with each ER PPC as opposed to 3 DHS, it would be nice if they could have purged the ER PPC heat faster. That might be another way to increase the effectiveness of SHS.

It still doesn't make SHS useful ever though.

For us fans going by the lore, it does.

Just by the sheer number of them that fit in a mech with enough weight they could be a real option if they have 0.11 h/s and component health went down or crit chances went up, but it is true that even with this they will not see use, even if they had a slightly higher capacity then DHS they still wouldn't be used. It's all about those 10 "extra" SHS that an engine, min 250, with DHS has inside.
Any mech with SHS trying to compete with a mech with DHS needs +10t of heatsinks just to have what the other has in his engine for free...
