Okay everybody, tin foil hat time! So, everyone is aware of the incoming nerfs to ECM. Which, honestly, I say is about time and should have been done earlier. HOWEVER, I have to ask, what does this mean for the future?

Enter: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Exterminator

This is a mech which is known to pack a piece of equipment known as the Null Signature system, a system which effectively cloaks the mech, making it significantly harder to target. Now, I pose to you, loyal tin foil theorists, why might they nerf ECM? Why, to advertise this new mech which can have this new system, Null Signature! Not only is this a TREMENDOUS buff to the IS, being able to use mechs like this (like the Thunderbolt wasn't good enough), but it will also bring back in a personalized method the old ECM that we all knew and loathed! Thoughts?

also...what is this...I just discovered sarna, and discovered a neato mech of the month?

Aside from the Null Sig and CLPS, the mech itself is rather ....uninspiring.

I think it would be pretty cool, actually. So I guess it's a bit ironic that the two unique features are the things that make this mech worth having are the same two that'll make it unlikely it'll ever get made.

The Spector is lighter and faster with the same null sig and chameleon shield, and only a little less firepower.

I'd prefer that over the Exterminator. But you'll never see either mech here.

To my understanding the null signature system tech was lost by 2790 and anything that has it is in the hands of Comstar (yes I know: King Crab) or an extremely rare Star League era relic and the alternative wasn't developed till 3063.

Speaking as a person with an original copy of TRO 2750, I can promise you the Exterminator did not come with Null Sig. That's a thing they added later and ret-conned onto the Exterminator.

Anyway I guess they could introduce it, but given their reluctance to even introduce an inner sphere ER Medium laser I wouldn't hold my breath.

eh, it's just me being a jaded vet around here I guess. Somebody finds a "new shiny", rushes to the forums to share this tidbit.... and doesn't realize it's been shared before (partly because our search engine is mediocre, partly because nobody uses our search engine before posting), and that it's stuff btech vets have been aware of for 20 years.

So my grumpy old man side comes out and yells get of my grass!

Maybe it's time to hang it up. Wait for Battltech to come out and hope that the Devs and Community don't ruin it as thoroughly as the two managed to do here with MWO.

I am glad for the fresh blood, I truly am, but my grumpy old man also comes when people make tech discoveries that aren't in MWO and assume the world does not know.

TBH a lot of the technology that was introduced in BT over the years didn't add much and paled in comparison to a few extra tons of weapons or heat sinks. You remember Improved Jump Jets? Usually better to just up the engine size and add regular jets.

Rules were retconned later. But null sig is mentioned right in the Overview:
"the Exterminator is equipped with the latest in ECM and null signature devices. It was also the first 'Mech to be equipped with the Chameleon Light Polarization Shield, which greatly reduced its chance of being seen. "

taken directly from my first edition 2750 TRO.

yup. Still not sure if hardened armor is worth it, etc. Most of the mechs these tech are featured on sure don't impress.

Seeing as Battletech is going to be a single player game, and chances are it's not going to reach the 2.5 million mark for full multiplayer, I don't think you'll have to worry much there Bishop.

As far as the devs ruining it, perish the thought, as CGL is going to be supplying all the rules, not PGI. That means proper heat scale and everything.

So I kinda dislike the young blood statement: my first btech game was Crescent Hawks Inception, so that says something. I'm also pretty aware it might not actually happen. In saying that, can't we all just enjoy the tin foil? It's shiny :-)

Sure. That's the plan.

Lot can change by 2017 though. Did I buy in? Sure. But man, were you here in early Closed Beta? We had the Btech universe by the balls....or so we all thought.

Well, apologies, but the way you burst on the scene in the OP did kind of smack of "OMG I just discovered sarna and look at this shiny I found!!!". Because, let's face it...we see that a fair bit.

So, again, sorry for casting aspersions. Only had the OP and my own grumpiness to work off of.

Quite alright. Lol I could have sworn you've seen me around before. I don't usually post to General, and am just coming back into the scene, so maybe that's it?

A long time ago I thought that I was being a unique hipster when I asked for MWO forum artists to commission a drawing of an Inner Sphere stealth-capable heavy mech. It would appear that Tabletop actually beat me to this idea. :(

However, mine was much more effective (and actually equipped for the role) and Bishop's drawing of it has way more "character" than the Exterminator's TRO art.

That art looks great and at the same time looks similar to the Exterminator.

huh. completely forgot about that sketch. Think it would make a better Power Armor or RIFTs robot, truth to tell. A little too stylized and organic.....after seeing the utter piece of crap the Arctic Cheetah looks like.... definitely not the style I think I would push anymore.

Why does it say the clans did not like that play style? The Elementals were doing just right that, head hunter tactics.
