I like it with 4x AC5 and 4x MLs. with the third largest ST Engine. Thing rips mechs to shreds.

I run a Mauler with 4 A/C5s and 2 LLasers.

It is very run and is just brutal. It is my favorite Mauler load out.

4x UAC/5?

Try it out sometime, it's awesome.

:)

I've been getting 600+ games with them, highest damage ever was 841.

I have, and I agree, it's one of the best ways to run the Mauler.

I run a similar build to this actually, but instead I use ER LLs and also 2 LRM 5s in addition to the AC/5s.

Running an XL in an Assault is a bad idea. You can run a King Crab w/ 4 UAC/5's + 2ML + 300+ rounds of UAC/5 ammo with a standard engine and not blow up when you lose a torso.

The only advantage the Mauler has is it has higher ballistic mounts, however that is countered by the KGC's arm mounts being able to fire higher and lower and its very low profile.

A Mauler is better off using its ballistics w/ its energy mounts to rack up the damage than running an XL.

Normally I'd agree with you, but in the Mauler I tend to get CT cored, plus it has structure bonuses to both STs. So it's actually pretty XL friendly for an assault.

Yeah happens to me too when I give a lot of face time.

But usually the Dakka scares them into making a bad shot so it hits my LT/RT. Note usually, otherwise I poke for 4 seconds and pump out 15-30 rounds before going back into hiding.

I don't know, poking in a dps assault build using autocannons? Gauss maybe, but not Ultra 5s. I tend to play very aggressively when I'm running a dps build. I either want them running for cover or more or less stunlocked from screen shake and explosions until I've shredded them. Sure, it also kind of forces a lot of face time, but the level of success I've had typically makes it worth it.

Oddly enough, my experience hasn't quite been the same as yours. You'd think at my tier I'd get those kinds of results you mentioned because being blasted nonstop by ACs is pretty disorienting, especially for newer players that are less likely to keep their cool. But no, as I mentioned before, quite often I'm CT cored.
