Hi, Been playing this game a long time, so not really a new player but I'm not sure where else to post this, it's not patch feedback...
About 3 months ago I took a break and I just started playing again in the last week or two.
I was really looking forward to get into it again but the games unplayable. Does anyone have experience trouble shooting network connections? When I left I was getting great ping 30-40 on the eu server. Now I get the same but with spikes of 800 - 1000 every couple of minutes. I don't know where to start. It's taken all the joy out of the game.
Help!

You'll need to provide more detail.
Help either found here or in the hardware technical section of the community hub will certainly need it.
Though the best help -- even if not as timely -- would come from:

There was something in the latest (Oct 20th) patch notes that could be your thing, but ofc I've never seen it so can't say.
• Nova: Fixed an issue with the NVA-D (L) Right Arm OmniPod that could cause severe performance issues in-game when the Nova was destroyed.

I have experienced bad lag spikes in the past when playing over WiFi, are you using WiFi, and if so can you try a network cable to see if that makes any difference?
I was setup in a room where I could not run an ethernet cable so got some powerline network adaptors which work fine

Networking issues are notoriously hard to diagnose, simply because networking - while simple - has a ton of variables and potential trouble spots.
I highly reccomend a program called PingPlotter (google this one) - using the trial version, run a plot to mwomercs.com (1 per second, infinite pings). This should show you if you've got any issues between your PC and the first few hops on your WAN, but it won't show you good routes to the game servers. Anything after, say, hop four or five? Probably not useful to you.
If you're getting nasty packet drops or lag spikes between your router and the wan? Chances are it's your router. At the first link or two of the WAN? probably your ISP. After that, it really does leave your direct control.
Do you play on a switch after your router, or on WiFi? Eliminate those links and be sure that it's not those variables in the mix. Direct to your router via cable - see if you get the same behavior.
You've got to find the link where there's an issue - then we can help you fix the problem.

Thanks for the responses, The PC is connected to a switch and then onto the router (no WiFi). I'll give ping plotter a go this evening.
It's annoying, I took a break a few weeks after the eu server came on line and had a couple of great weeks with really low pings, come back and it's knackered.

Advice: never use Wi-Fi channel for game purposes, only cable. Radio frequencies does not have noise immunity.

General advice for a intermittent wired connection fault is check the connections and restart all routers on your network, if there is still a problem try bypassing or replacing any suspect switches/routers assuming you have spares available to attempt to isolate what is causing the problem.

Thanks for all the help. Pingplotter is awesome! In the end it highlighted two issues one with my router and another with one of the hops within my ISP.
A couple of hard reboots of the router sorted the first and the other seems to be much less of an issue as a result (?) but I can now monitor it and if it is a problem I'll email my isp.
So thanks again!
