A lot of the T5 players are new to the game, I started in February and it took me a long while to get my first kill or even get 100+ damage more than a couple of matches in a row ;).

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I think it's a bit weird when people say that they're having so much fun in Tier 4 or Tier 5 because they're racking up 8 kills in every game and scoring 2000 dmg in their Timber Wolf. That just means you don't belong there. It's basically sandbagging, it's like when a high level martial artist competes in a low level division.

You rack honour.

But if some people are enjoying Tier 4 or Tier 5 because there are fewer meta mechs and more fun builds, fewer try-hards and just more people having a good time, then I totally get that. And I applaud that some people are able to differentiate between epeen and having fun.

Personally, I'm trying to get to Tier 1 as soon as possible. It's a much more fun goal than trying to increase my WLR or KDR in the solo queue by 0.01 points. But having gone from Tier 3 to Tier 2, I'm not really seeing much of a difference yet. And I'm worried that Tier 1 players mostly get dumped with the Tier 2 and Tier 3 players anyway, so I'm not sure if there's really any light at the end of the tunnel.

All I want to do is play with and against competent players who know what they're doing, without running into 12-man House of Lords teams in their their Dragon Slayer poptarts or CPLT-A1 Streakboats or whatever meta the kids are running these days.

However, do you know how hard it is to change tiers for an experienced player? I am about 1/40 of the bar away from Tier 3 in Tier 4 ... I suspect for two main reasons. I haven't played that much this year and much of my play time was spent leveling up mechs and playing around with my lights and mediums.

Yesterday, I played seven matches. I won five and lost two. In the five I won my PSR went up. In the two I lost, I scored well and got equal signs for PSR change. Net effect on the PSR bar was something like two pixels.

Based on that it will take me something like 20 to 40 (or more) decent games to get out of Tier 4.

The bottom line is that for those folks who may have ended up in the wrong tier by just playing their fun mechs and leveling things up ... they could be there for a VERY long time. :)

I think this is just another flaw with how the PSR system works but we will see how things go over the longer term.

New accounts, or those who have not been playing recently all start from upper T4, so if one had started on T5, that means he is a bad pilot indeed. No ifs, ands, or buts. I have an old alt account from 2013 and a new alt account from 2015--both started at upper T4.

Its not that. We tend to play in small groups. In small groups you also tend to run up against comp teams. This leads to the small groups getting rolled a lot which means a low win rate. Add to this not liking the meta builds and you get a wonky rating.

Right, I forgot to take group queue into account, my bad. I do think PSR should be removed from group queue as it harms small groups and favors big ones.

Coat tail riders always take my kills. Either way we Shouldn't have lost with me can opening four assaults.

At least your team converted 4 kills. I've put up 900+s with my ML BJ-1X opening up everything on the other side and lost 0-12 somehow.

That's the thing in a larger group he does great as well or better than people in tier 2-3. I have also seen some people in tier 2-3 do terribly. He is over all very good at the game in a variety of mechs me I just play the few mechs I like.

Also he often runs assualts like I do so we tend to die fast while trying to push the front so the guys behind us can get in. So if you are a person playing one of the meta builds that specializes in instant damage from 350-750m out then its great for you because you get kills after they are worn down or are distracted. However the guy taking the damage and just blazing away is going to get fewer kills and now a lower tier.

Mechwarrior games at least the online ones have a bad habit of becoming alpha jump shot if not also hack fest. Point-gauss/ppc etc builds. Now it is becoming more and more laser builds after the nerfs and quirks etc.

Moving from T3 to T2, the only change you made was removing T5 players from your matches from my understanding. Moving to T1 will remove the T4s as well. T3 can play everyone.

Me being a T5 means that I don't see T2 and T1. I (and others that have played me regularly) expected to be T3, but this isn't a skill ranking, its something else.

Well, that's a nice theory, but remember ELO wasn't exactly kind to everyone. Some people had the deck stacked against them constantly. I'd say posting a 1,300 damage game even against less than stellar competition is still quite an accomplishment. It is a little suspect he didn't kill anything, but even so.

Anyway, OP, you got 6 kill assists, which says to me at the very least your team took out half of theirs. I'd say that was a pretty decent game. You're going to have games like that no matter what tier you're on, and that's not a bad thing. In fact, that's the kind of games you should want. Obviously you want to be on the winning side sometimes but noone wins all the time.

Don't climb the tiers. The higher tiers have a lot more ego bloated blowhards that throw abuse at their teammates when they die.

I started playing this game in a 2 man group late 2014 and had a lot of small group games it was very brutal. I love to learn new mechs and figure out how they work. Do not play for stats, just try to be the best pilot in game, try to give hints to your team, respect your enemy and you will eventually fimd yourself in t1.
