Balance, And How Your Never Going To Achieve It.

Granted, this is before the any yet to happen weapons/component tweaks as part of the overall balance that is to be happening.


*stands on soap box and clears voice*


Now PGI have made some changes, to groups and what they can take by tonnage and number of people in the group in the last patch, to try and balance things a little that way, and ensure no assault mech number superiority etc can occur.

This is part of the great balance to come, with weapons and components which will get altered etc etc at a later date.



Will this make things more balanced? No. Never. It will just make matches close range rather than a mix of ranges to guarantee maximum damage per alpha and keep the TTK down.


What makes me think this?


Myself and a compatriot just had a battle as part of a two man team along with 1 star, a 3 man group and another duo.
We faced off against a very good group who are superb at milking the meta for all its worth and have worked hard to make their teamplay damn good.
Of course, we didnt have anywhere near the cohesive action and response needed to be able to respond to them in any shape or form.

Of course, we lost, but not by a great many. It was 12-8 to them.

So, how are you going to achieve balance when the team you face does something like this.

2 x SDR - 5D's (ECM)
2 x ACH's (1 prime, 1 B) (ECM)
1 x HBR Prime
3 x TDR-5SS
2 x TDR-9SE
2 x TDR-9SE(C)

vs our hodge podge of
1 x WLF-1
1 x WLF-1A
1 x WLF-2R®
1 x RVN-H
1 x PNT-9R
1 x JM6-S
1 x CPLT-K2
1 x CPLT-A1
1 x CPLT-C1
1 x QKD-5K
1 x EBJ-A
1 x BL-6-KNT®


Please don't misunderstand me.

I am not here to complain about anyone or any team and how they choose to play.

I am here to point out (yet again) that you will never get balance in this game because of things like this.

What they did was perfectly acceptable under the current setup. They kept to their weight limits etc.

And they used meta mech builds to prove (in my eye at least) that no matter how PGI try and keep things balanced..... it isn't going to work. The meta types will always break the balance.


Balance is not just about quantity of mech types/weights in use, its not just about damage per alpha and at what range they are effective, its not about the heat generated by the weapons in use, its not just about the range of the ECM bubble in use.

This, as above, is a prime example of there being no balance ever capable in this game.
These mechs above will have lost no advantages in a Group match at all, because they are still meta builds.

Their builds can never be balance in any form or manner, just nerfed or buffed as PGI see's fit to keep the masses pleased.

Suggestion for mods to move threads like this to the COMMUNITY HYPERPULSE GENERATOR / BARRACKS

One thing you might be misinterpreting: balanced doesn't mean equal.
