Well if I could just get my hands on some modding tools I could fix this terdwagon. The map has a great concept and being difficult to navigate in sections has its +/-'s. See people "general populace" need to be funneled into routes. In the wild, people left to there own reckless abandon tend to cluster and FF or follow the other idiot savant's who charge forward to there death in the hopes to score some points.

A couple well placed mining tipples, a deep cut ravine for mining equipment moving from center to an outlying pile of rubble with possible an cut coming off from it. These would act to funnel the crowd or invite terrain to make a firing line. The center should spew corrosive armor damaging gas every "random" interval to push the bowl huggers out.

Honestly I appreciate the effort but I wish PGI would spend more time making new maps and just leave the old ones unaltered and in the rotation just cleaned up from the junk.

There seems to be a trend in MWO map design.

The designers jam pack the new maps with terrain features, meshes and other objects to make them look more full and thus "modern". Never stopping to consider that the density of stuff on a map, the openness of a map so to speak, is a design FEATURE and has huge impact on gameplay.

Most new maps, I feel, do this. The density of terrain features and other stuff is extremely high. We need open maps too, they allow for unique maneuvering and combat not possible in more cramped locations.

You could have a totally flat map, no grass, water, or smoke... and just one tree in the center, and people will still ******* NASCAR around it. Everyone could be in a Zeus, and they'd still NASCAR.

I like the new Caustic design, but really dislike the texture/color scheme. If they just wanted to put Sulfurus Rift into standard they could have hacked off the defense side of the map and modified it a little bit to open up more lanes from whats left of the attacking side.

What? Why?

The new Caustic is extremely similar to the old one except that now it has more cover around the rim and a wider rim. Explain how that is worse.

I'd like to see both caustics in rotation.

I second that motion. We have 2 versions of maps already with Frozen City night and Frozen City nosight. We had Forest Colony snow and Forest Colony fog. Give us Caustic old and Caustic ruined both in rotation!

I think we actually have less map options than at the start of the year, will be another one gone when Frozen City gets the day cycle.

River City - day/night
Forest Colony - lost snow

2 maps down that I can think of off the top of my head.

It is odd that they were not able to improve on the worst map in the game. Such a step back from the previous map revisions. Literally 2 steps forward and one step back.

Is it not obvious PGI spends the least amount on map development? I swear I see one guy smoking a dube in a utilty closet making maps there.

Found at least three places to get horribly stuck in assaults in caustic now with no way out. Its almost a contender to swamp bttch for crappiest design ever.

Really really not enjoying the new Caustic map, at all.

I think they need to scrap it and start from scratch.

Go with a totally different layout, totally different design and bury this terd.

Completely agree. This map is horrible. It feels like they really rushed its release.

I don't understand all the complaints.

Is it possible that when they redesigned Caustic they had certain design goals in mind that perhaps you who hate the new version aren't considering?

The taller rocks provide better cover for LRMs and provide more LOS blocking (the number 2 complaint about the map). The broken terrain, which is harder to navigate, and the wider rim impede or at least slow down Nascar strategies (the number 1 complaint about the map). Almost every other feature of the map is basically the same as it was before, it's just more of a neon-yellow color now.

What exactly is your complaint about the current map that the old one did better, now that we have those design goals in mind?

Yea.. i really liked the old caustic.. this new one is So hard to see.. at night it's nearly impossible for me.. Makes terra seam like alpine..

I have no clue why they keep making maps darker and darker, even with the visions on they are extremely hard to see.

for a game that most of the players are older.. they sure do seem to wanna make us stop playing for the simple fact we can't see crap!

Maybe all the new maps have such poor visibility because they are designed with the new infowar range reductions in mind?

We all know this, but is the final result actually going to be a fun game?

Good luck launching a first person shooter on steam with visibility in every mode being made into crap, movement hampered by bad terrain artifacts and multiple convoluted mechanics that do not address any of the core problems this game has.

So, you are saying MWO will be the most unique FPS on Steam?

When I run into that bad terrain, I like to imagine I am getting stuck on a crease on the map. :)
