I was thinking the other day, if these mechs were real, what mech would I pilot considering all of the real life issues that could come from strapping into a multi ton walking death machine.

I know that it sounds exciting to think of jumping all around and blowing things up but if you have ever been on a ride at the amusement park where it shoots you up in the air, I think I would forgo any mech that jumps just because I'd like to keep my stomach in place. :)

With all the RL considerations, I figured the mech for me would be a Glass Spider / Galahad 2.

I know my skill with the joystick isn't that great, so pulse lasers and a targeting computer would be awesome for me. Also I'm more of a fire support kind of guy, stand there and shoot whatever comes near you without moving around too much.
It doesn't have ammo so no worry about going BOOM and no need to worry about running out of ammo either.

I just thought it was an interesting exercise in thought to give RL considerations to a mech choice over what looks coolest or has the most firepower.

I'd love to hear what people would go for with the considerations I've mentioned.
:)

Depends on what we are considering real life!

If real life real life, and I was basically the only one with a battlemech, I'd go for a centurion or a commando, fast but humanoid. As much as I'd like to take a flea and get to work in five minutes, it just looks silly. So a bit slower, but more awesome looking for me (can also do poses to pick up chicks).

If I were in the battletech universe, an awesome, because then I wouldn't be as expendable as that dude in the flea >.>

Real life as in you were in the Battletech universe and a real pilot who was actually concerned with your own mortality so to speak.

Zeus or the new Atlas. The only fear I'd have is someone mech jacking me when I get out to use the bathroom.

Ever since I got my first BT starter box (the one with all the Unseen), I've always dreamed of stomping on things in a Griffin. Using trees to play golf with Volkswagen Bugs. Dashing over the terrain and using JJ's to get to the tops of mountains. Climbing the empire state building with some hot blond gently nestled in the hand actuator. So generally creating havoc while looking pimp.

Any LAM would also be fun.

Griffin is way up there for me too for several reasons. 1 you don't have to get close to do your job, 2 you have a great view of everything with that fantastic bubble cockpit. 3 you have decent armor and speed. Good choice all around.

I think that any is the correct answer. Any mech is better than no mech.

depends on time and Standing.

If i could get my fingers on an Clan Masakari / Warhawk i would Take him.
4 ER PPC
You melt down each enemy mech in youre fire cone.
But i would switch LRM 10 for anti missile System and more heatsinks *G*

Urbie because urbie is the most realistic of all the mech. if a mech was created, urbie or the catapult would be most likely. urbie for police force and catapult for aa

Tough choice, I think I'd need to have one for every day of the week parked in my Mech hangar. Could go for pretty much anything, as long as it has at least one gauss cannon and LRM launcher, and that doesn't look like it had a close encounter with the Ugly Stick.

Marauder or Marauder 2 self assembled. :)
A Summoner or a Shadowhawk are only an alternative.

Firebee. I see endless possibilities with this mech.

I would change some things if i could afford it. Rip out all the SRM 2's and put an SRM 4 in the arm. XL engine and double heatsinks.
Updgrade to an ER Large laser. An ECM system to make it far more deadly in urban enviroments.

There you go. A light mech capable of acting as a scout/sniper and a distraction in an urban enviroment.
