As I'm not the greatest pilot around, I get to spectate a lot.
I've noticed that many players have all of their weapons in group 1, which in an of itself is not that unusual.
Normally, if you have such a set up, when you fire group 1 all of your weapons fire at the same time, and will keep firing as they cool down, or time out.
I have noticed, while spectating, that while a player may have all of their weapons in group 1, they are able to only fire specific weapons and not all, even though all of their weapons are ready to fire.

As an example, in a recent match, a player had 2 LRMs and 3 Lasers in group 1, he was able to fire JUST the LRMs and not the Lasers, or just the Lasers and not the LRMs, or fire all of them at once. He stood there firing LRMs over an object at an enemy for a minute or more without firing his lasers once. An enemy came around a corner, he turned, and only fired his lasers, several times. And after a while, there was an enemy with no obstructions between them, and all of his weapons fired at once-he only did that one time.

Is there a setting that I've missed that only allows weapons to fire only under certain conditions. I.E. LOS only, beyond LOS only, only within range?
I mean, if I place all my weapons in group 1, and fire group 1, everything fires.
Am I missing something? or are they cheating? using a hack? or found an exploit?

I am kinda sure that you wont see the correct weaponsgroups if you are spectating someone. Just everything in group 1 even if he has like 5 different groups in real.

Nope it is just that in the spectator mode it does not really show you the true layout of the weapon groups. It is a bug I think but this has been so since I can remember and I have been playing this since closed Beta, nothing to worry about mate.

uh...
What you see in spectate mode, isn't always what is going on in game.

Weapon groups, charge up (specifically Gauss) cooldowns, don't always sync up properly while spectating.

People with high pings can appear to be shooting miles behind or in front of a player and to you what looks like a miss, is a hit on their screen and to the server according to HSR.

Lots of funny things happen in spectate mode that you just can't trust.

Very few people would have only one group, even single weapon type boats usually have a chainfire group on 2. That suggests strongly that if you see it often it's spectator mode bugging, and the incident you describe confirms it.

Well, I have clicked through the various players on my team, and have seen up to five groups of weapons, but it sure seems weird.
Thanks for the info, folks.

It also seems to play a role whether you have (or had?) that mech and configured weapon groups for it. If you don't you'll probably see the weapons all in group one.

Weapon groups will default to group one as spectator. If you spectate a Mech that you have it will show your weapon groups on that chassis you have configured.

confirmed bug
it does not always happen either
i see it on my own unit mates and i know how they have set their groups and how they use them
we discuss our configurations in depth, so it is certainly a bug
