Greeting,
New guy, first post, having trouble finding my way around.

I received an unhandled exception when trying to run after patching--first time running.

"the specified executable is not a valid application for this OS platform"

I'm using Win8, GeForce GTX 770.

Can someone help with this--even if to direct it properly?

This is the error summary:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Are you running 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 8? Also, are you really on 8 or are you actually running 8.1?

It's installed: c:\program files (x86)\piranha games\mechwarrior online \ bin32\mwoclient.exe

(i took liberty on a few capitalizations in those words. but, that's the path)

Windows edition: 8.1

Mmm

I think I never heard that one before
Well

There's a cog symbol when you launch, click on it and select 32bit instead of 64bit
Or the other depending on what it stands on

Maybe try to run the app with admin rights?
Right click on it and select run as admin
Or compatibility mode

Though it shouldn't really need that

Maybe a virus scanner is corrupting something

You can try running the patcher and select repair

Repair tool, might be a corrupt file.

First, I'm limited to 3 posts here until tomorrow. so, forgive me cramming into this post to be efficient.

1. after many hash errors i ended up getting everything to install by running the repair toolkit in safe mode w/networking. that took a while, but it all came down. I get the mwo app to open with the large "play" button---it's been patched I think--and the exception error comes up.
2. I am running as an admin. I'm logged in that, but I did 'run as admin' just to be sure.
3. I'm not sure what you meant by a "cog". Did you mean windows or MWO?
4. When mwo launches, the interface app is v1.7.7.0
5. I have a c:\windows\program files (x86) \ piranha games\MWOUpdate \ mismatch \ bin32\ MWOCLIENT.EXE as well. It errors and will not run on the machine citing "...to find a version for your PC...."

6. I've heard of a filename error, where changing a file or perhaps a registry entry fixed this.

Hold on. found the cog. MWO client settings, right? 64bit. Looks like I'm in.

Truly, thanks for the quick responses. First time I'm here, and already another gaming group has proven to be more sincere, efficiency, and helpful than most commerical establishments. :)

lol. I generally find once a commercial establishment has your money they don't care very much. We, on the other hand, want you to have a good time playing the game so we're willing to help. Having said that, I honestly believe that PGI (The developer of MWO) also wants you to have a good time playing their game, but they are a very small shop and are overwhelmed by all the work. Also, they've pretty recently gotten rid of their publisher who was making their lives difficult and had them do some things that the players really hated.

One more thing for you to be aware of, there is a link to SUPPORT at the top of the page, which will allow you to send PGI an e-mail, but be aware that they are backlogged with support requests (or at least they were). So, in light of that we, the loyal players, have sort of tacitly taken it upon ourselves to help whoever in whatever way we can (when it comes to MWO).

Oh, I wasnt making a slight against them. I had heard they were backlogged; I had sent emails about a week or so ago. I was just lamenting about the commercial nature in general.

Thanks again everyone..

I have been away from the game for awhile and had to download the latest patch (took forever). After loading I attempted to run the game because my tridder finger was getting really itching but an error panel popped up saying that d3dx9_43.dll is missing and that I should reinstall the program to fix the problem, which I have done twice to no affect. I really would like to know how to fix so I can play again and stop this damned itch.

That looks like it may be a part of DirectX 9 rather than MWO, try to download directx 9 for windows 8 then install it, it will likely tell you that a newer version is already installed but ignore that and tell it to install anyway, hopefully doing that will fix the problem.

That did the trick, thanks a lot. Itching finger cured.
