Depends on your aim. I run a 4X with 2 LBX 10 and 1 LPL. Its fun!

With the regular AC/10 you get more ammo per ton, and much greater pinpoint damage. Always pick the AC/10. Always. Unless quirks are for super-LB crazyness.

Even then...use the 10.
And if you're running a dual ballistic on the CTF-3D...why not gauss?

LONG ago, I had an Ilya Muromets. I sometimes liked to run one of each on it. The AC for medium range targets to get pinpoint, and the LBX for the later up-close stuff. Also ran that on a Jagermech of some sort, and that worked out pretty well.
But generally, yeah, I agree with the AC10 > LB10X voices here. LB-X autocannons have some nifty bonuses with critical hits that make them valuable later in the match, but that's not so much of an advantage before then. Doesn't do much good if you and your teammates don't survive long enough to face busted-up enemies...

thx. well, Im using STD280 in my phracts, so 4X doesnt come in mind. (BTW i wanna also cry thread like the babies did for maraduer speed for cata 4X.... nm)
I know AC10 will kill faster.... but i also like LBX.

I like dual gauss and run it on a few of my mechs, but with the 3D I use a Gauss in the arm with a AC/20 in the torso. Really makes the variant stand out for me.
CTF-3D

Actually I used one of each for quite some time.
AC10 in the right arm, and LBX in the torso - worked pretty good for me (and Cataphracts don't work well for me!).

Personally, I don't like either of those options. The 3D has so many builds that are actually optimized, it can be difficult to decide what to put on it. Personally, I like it as a poptart with 2 PPCs and an AC10. I definitely recommend trying to take advantage of the high mounted energy hard points in the STs along with the JJs so I wouldn't go heavy on ballistics. That said, feel free to have some fun with the mech and experiment. It is still a great mech imo.

i dont like PPC at all. slow, weird hit box.
So i created 2x LBX10 + 3 ML + STD engine. able to do 700+ damage with it.

If it works for you and your style go for it!
In my opinion here are the pro's and con's of each type
LBX-10:
pro's
- Easy to get at least some damage out of each shot
- More intimidating
- Center pellet has perfect accuracy
- retains 3x max range like the Gauss, so you can at least tag people for an assist at super long ranges, even if you do crap damage
- Bonuses to crit rate for each pellet means that it will be better at burning down the Internal structure of an armorless target area.
- 1 ton Lighter and 1 Slot smaller than AC10
- Damage is spread over multiple zones of enemy
- Despite the increased max range, damage falls off faster over range due to the spread and pellets missing
- Less ammo/ton than AC10
- Harder to actually destroy components due to the fact that each pellet rolls for crit seperatly, this means you are spreading your component damage over multiple components each time, rather than all into one component.
pro's:
- Pinpoint damage
- More ammo/ton 20 vs. 15. This means that every 4 tons you'd have loaded, you get a free ton of ammo vs. the LBX
- Easier to do Max damage at Medium and Long ranges
- If you score a critical hit, it will destroy almost any component guaranteed. All your crit damage gets applied to the same component, and most have 10 health.
- Heavier, takes one more slot
- Hit or miss, literally. Without spread you either deal your full damage or none at all.
- Stuck in between the Much stronger AC20 (only 2 tons heavier I think) and the Faster and better ranged AC/5 (4 tons lighter).
TL;DR
AC/10 is very vanilla, but reliable damage with good ranges and crit capabilities
LBX-10 is more fun, forgiving of aim for hitting fast targets. Flashier, but less effective.
