it's hitboxes are mid-to low tier, since they are big, and the VTR's mobility makes up for it somewhat, however,

clan lasers are now hitting for 50 dmg +, meaning a side torso on a VTR can vaporize very quickly.

i used to run the poptart VTR a bunch in it's glory days, and for a long time was my only assault, currently running mine with a STD, since most people are expecting a kill shot with the loss of a side, and if you play like you have an XL (hiding your shoulder) most of the good players will hold their shots until you bring it back into view, allowing you to get more alphas off before you are left with your missiles or ballistics.

being very good at torso twisting and forcing your opponent to chew through your arm(s) will help immensely, BUT, the rear torso is the VTR's biggest flaw, you can actually hit it from almost 90*, so it is KEY to not "over rotate".

hitboxes:

with all that said, it's still a decent brawler, and it's strength lies in being able to disengage multiple times and assault from the unsuspected angle, use the JJ's and speed to hit flanks quicker then your foe can respond with similar role heavies and mediums.

When I run my DS, I usually go with STD engine as well. Even when you don't have the XL, losing that right torso takes you out of the fight since all your big guns disappear. Still, helps to be able to give up your left side and still survive.

Anyway you raise a good point about the hit boxes, you can get away with pretty minimal rear armor levels on the RT and LT, while the rear CT is a huge target. Seismic sensors and situational awareness are such a big deal to avoid you getting your back cored out instantly. Victor is just plain tough to keep alive :P
