I want to try my hands at Assault mechs (well, eventually anyway). I very strongly prefer chicken-legged mechs, and ones that do not look humanoid. That leaves pretty much the Crab and Stalker (and I guess Direwolves). Crabs and Dire are dime a dozen, so I would rather not play one. But Stalkers...do they have to be so ugly? What does it even carry in that gigantic, bulking center torso? Why does it have to look like a blimp even though it doesn't carry anything there?

Their walking/shuffling/shambling animation is atrocious, and their arms somehow remind me of T-rex's tiny arms. Why are they so ugly? Is there any mech that I can play in good conscious?

You know, Battlemechs are made for war, not beauty contests.

I love the walking animation of the stalker, reminds me a bit of an AT-ST. More to the point that blimp like body makes it one of (if not THE) toughest mechs in the game. You cant go wrong with stalkers.

I believe the stalker animation we have now is a revised animation.

Someone out there has to have video of the old stalker walking animation with the "happy" feet. 2cute

Warhawks often get overlooked, but they are actually fairly solid mechs. They're second only to the DWF in assault class firepower. And they're about the only option left if you're looking for unpopular non-humanoid mechs.

Lore-wise, the Stalker's long, narrow body is designed to shrink its frontal target profile - the 'Mech was specifically and intentionally designed to bull its way past heavy defenses. That actually translates to MWO really well - the Stalker's body shape and hitboxes makes it nigh-impervious to CT shots from the front if the pilot is remotely paying attention, while its mass translates to it being one of the physically smaller assaults currently in the game.

Yeah, the 'arms' are silly, but what can you do? Stalkers are one of the most ageless assault 'Mechs in both the TT canon and in MWO. They remain relevant to this day, which is more than eighty percent of the assault units on either side of the tech divide can say.

I do love my Warhawks, though...

Tell me about it. I think PGI may have taken that whole "shrink its frontal target profile" fact a little too far...

Then again, I'm not really sure if this is an issue with the Stalker or an Issue with the Catapult. In either case, the Catapult is slated to be shrunk a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing the Stalker grow a tiny bit too, but it won't happen and I'm not sure the Stalker growing is really necessary either.

Well, the flip side is that it's kinda impossible to miss a Stalker from the side. if you stay nose-on the target then you can twist around and pick exactly where the other guy hits you, but if he catches you broadside...well, you're broad on the side and he can't really not hit whatever he's shooting at. Heh, I'd be interested to see one of those volume measurements between the Stalker and the Flatapult from the side. Imagine the difference would be much greater.

It can't possibly be worse than the original artwork.

Really? I find the Stalker to be one of the cooler looking mechs, mostly due to it's practicality. My first 3 mechs were Stalker, Jenner and the Cicada as I have a similar love for chicken legged mechs.

In game the Stalker shines with narrow profile and high mounted hard points. The Misery has to be one of the best Hero mechs to date.

King Crabs are pretty good too, and you can get away with playing them because Dire's are much more meta.

You won't regret getting either of them.
