Yeah, he's really one of the good and obedient guys. For the cons at least, not that he's really teaching his peoples how to read or some other communist stuff...

Honorable Liao had nothing to do with this unfortunate event. We regret that the citizenry is not allowed to express itself freely in a "so-called" free society. We sincerely hope that The First Prince will re-think this action and allow the workers of Torrence access to the government they have put in place through their own labor.

For the Chancellor!

This is taken from the original House Davion book # 1623. This book is based 3025 information.

Quote

Name: Vinson Pharmaceuticals
New Avalon Stock & Commodities Symbol: VnPh
Home Office Location: Kiverson City, Torrence
President/CEO: Baroness Marth Terenson
Business Profile:
Vinson Pharmaceuticals is currently attempting to avoid being nationalized by the Torrence government, which recently went socialist. In its efforts to remain independent, the company has been looking for offworld investors to buy up at least 40 percent of the company’s securities, which would make it ineligible for nationalization. Vinson is famed for its ability to isolate the effective agents in old folk remedies such as herbal teas or homeopathic mixtures. Its several powerful, yet cheaply made, painkillers have made the company extremely popular with the
Davion military.

So this has been rumbling on for 24 years & still hasn't been sorted? I'm surprised that "Uncle Chandy" hasn't bought them out through a Davion front company yet. :)

Well the Clans are going to socialize plenty of economies- especially those run by the "Medical Caste" or "Scientist Caste". See The Wars of Reaving: http://www.sarna.net...Wars_of_Reaving

And: http://www.sarna.net...Wars_of_Reaving Possibly the most powerful Battlemech ever built.

So I imagine some Davion arguing with a Clanner that Socialism is "Good in theory but not in practice" (nevermind Clan Society is considered "socialist" but the average Clanner has no concept of Macro-Political Economic Theory- I would argue Clans are more Communalist then Socialist but that's how the Canon of Tactical Ops describes them).

Well the Clanner's eyes would maybe twitch for 2 seconds, before he either levels a mean fist or shouts "Shut up bondsman!"

Clan economy is Socialist, and it is bloody efficient. Also both Kurita is "Market Socialist" and the Lyrans are "Mercantalist"- basically privatized but planned with the State are primary consideration (very much profiteering war socialist). The Cappellans have the most collectivized, centralized economies ever. And the Republic of Sphere:

Quote

In October of 3073, Stone met with ComStar Precentor Martial Victor Ian Steiner-Davion on Tukayyid, in a meeting arranged by David Lear. At that meeting, he and Lear laid out a philosophy which Victor would privately describe as "militant socialism keyed to altruism". Officials and authorities would have their assets placed in a blind trust. Public service would be rewarded. Greed and corruption would be punished. All weapons would be placed under the government control.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Devlin_Stone

Only Davions and FWL are really free market, and FWL falls apart. Most Nations are forced to go "Socialist" or at least Collectivist during war situations. Kiss the Ayn Rand fantasies good bye.

One mean Battlemech makes it so "John Galt Complies."

How terrible! Interfering with business in that way is, of course, unthinkably stupid and typical of the sort of wishy-washy thinking that many ordinary citizens without access to a full and proper education engage in.

However, the typically Davion response is heavy-handed and militaristic and shouldn't be possible in a well run state; that local government was duly elected and appointed by the people of Torrence and any political disputes with them should be resolved in a civilized manner, not by the exercize of undue political power, still retained by a privileged few.
