Ok, so I don't play much anymore. I just got back after dropping game during the last lurmageddon and I realize there has been a bunch of changes, some for the better, some... Not so much.

I enjoyed playing back in the day with 4-mans. I loathe playing in current group queue. Matches are too often lopsided and not fun. Either you win by a mile or you get roflstomped by coordinated metamechas. Only rarely will you get a good close match, and every mistake made cascades massively.

Love the new mech academy, even if some of the challenges are weird and a bit less than usefull for the game.

My thoughts on how to make the MM work well:

Solo: Screw ELO, PSR and chassis-class match up. Make each team have 12 players at about the same tonnage, click button, play the game. Make solo as easy as possible to drop into and get a few games in, dropping queue times as much as possible.

Lance: 4man max groups with the occasional high PSR player who is dropping solo filling out open Lance spots. People who can communicate and play well are rewarded, solo, ego-players will be more likely to get stomped.

12-man: Keep as it is, tonnage is fine.

Other changes:

I like having the option of reporting players for being dumbasses. This community, while far better than most MP F2Ps, has quite a few of these. However; Why only focus on negative feedback?
There has been quite a few games where I'd have liked to give accolades to a player who does well, who has turned the game, who has communicated well, who has done something that has made me think that humanity, maybe, isn't all that bad.

Mentor system: Give veterans a chance to teach new players basic tricks and tips for mechs. Perhaps as a part of mech academy? I spent a fair bit of time teaching newer players how to play their big beautiful mechs in a way that makes it less likely that they (like me) will uninstall after being ***** by lights. Basically give new players a tool box to work with.

CW: Increase difficulty of taking over planets. A planetary assault is not done with a few matches, it should be the conclusion of a massive campaign taking days and days of playtime.

Anyway. My two cents. YMMV.
