PGI do you realize the amount of 'down-time' there is between the user and the user-interface during searches? This down-time is costing you $$$. This time could be used for browsing the store for colors, mechs, etc. Or for building mechs (another opportunity to spend CBills and MC).
Is there any way you can allow these features to be available between searches? It will only help your bottom-line and make search times more bearable for the player.
Think on this.

That "down time" is necessary.
While in the Mech Lab, you are logged into the Mech Lab server. Once you hit Launch, you are decoupled from the Mech Lab server so the matchmaker can find you a match. Once it does, you attach to a game server for that match. And once your match ends or you exit early, you decouple from that game server and connect back to the Mech Lab server.
If you were in the store buying something or changing a build, you couldn't be ready to launch into a game right away. You would end up being passed over for games and waiting even longer.

I'm not a programmer but I'm sure there's some way around this. Maybe on optional auto-save feature that saves your work automatically upon connection to the game server.. I wouldn't mind that. Even if you choose not to save, you're still browsing, WINDOW SHOPPING so to speak, getting ideas for your NEXT buy...
How about that 30 seconds or so wait time you experience when you finally connect to the game server, maybe 5 seconds can be added to that and a popup window can give you the option to save your work and you have 5 seconds to click on the pop-ups 'save' button.
Like I said I'm not a programmer, it's up to PGI to come up with some way.. because this downtime is money wasted from a business stand point... such a missed opportunity.
Bonus: it will reduce the afk problem many teams experience from players being tabbed out of the game during searches.

Hawken lets you tinker in different areas of the UI while the game is searching, I don't see why MWO can't.. :/

Thank you.. nothing is impossible, it's just a matter of justifying the means with the end..
