Gotta admit... I wish I could find the enthusiasm to keep up with this, but the state of the game has made playign my main acct less than fun, let alone an alt acct grinding away in AlphaStrikeLandia.

I'm planning to go on a mechbay tour in the relatively near future. Because this account isn't a daily grinder, I should be able to easily absorb the 7-day "deserter" penalties, and the loss of LP isn't that big a deal if I'm not planning on hanging around. Probation matches can be played in quick play or faction play, so no biggie there.
When I make the grand tour, I'll make a swing through each of the IS houses for before coming back. I'll decide whether I want to hang around for rank 6, or just rank 2, depending on how much fun I'm having (or not).
I'll of course pay back my recruitment fee upon my return, and I also plan to pay another one forward before I go. I like this challenge, I want it to have plenty of goodies available for folks to have fun with it. I'll have plenty of time to grind up moar mammon while I'm on tour.

i don't think anyone will get upset if we were to bounce around with you. right now i have been sticking with Liao simply due to the the 20% bonus. if you want i can bounce each in turn. heck as one of the few that posts it would be the least we could do. besides Liao maybe paying good but the teams/matches with Liao are getting stale...

Speaking from Amarath's primary account:
It's not so much that Liao's getting stale. At least not for me it's not. I think taking the best-paying contract makes most sense, but then, I pug exclusively right now and c-bills are necessary to fund my duct-tape-opulence lifestyle choices on my challenge alt account.
I'm eyeballing the IS "Serial Loyalist Tour" to pick up a couple extra mechbays from the Loyalist rewards trees. I came in late enough that I hadn't really done much Faction Play on Amaranth's account before the new system kicked in to penalize LP for leaving loyalist status.
I'm prefectly cavalier in taking the penalty to my own LP, but I'd hate to drag folks around. We haven't seen free mechbay evwnts recently, and I need at least 4 more mechbays to accommodate the bonus tiers of the challenge. I can't get those from staying merc, nat least not without a significant investment in time.
It's more expedient to pinball around for a set of Loyalist Rank 2 mechbays and take all my own penalties. I'm not bored with the challenge at all. I even spent last night grinding Merc Rank 1, more XP on my still-SHS VTR-9B dakka-saw, and enough c-bills to fill my new mechbay with a VTR-9K. The roundhouse is full again.
A quick Loyalist sightseeing tour would alleviate the "housing issues," by giving me enough bays to accommodate me for the duration of the challenge. I'm just planning on working the system as it's currently built, to accommodate the stuff I want to do in the challenge. The 25% penalty doesn't hurt significantly at lower ranks, especially at Rank 2.

When I pop out to run those errands, i figure it'll be a 3-month-or-so trip. 1 week to do the probation matches and grind LP, 1 week on the desertion timer, rinse-repeat, 6 factions. Since my Clan bonus is a light mech, I could try and be greedy running scout missions, but that's potentially more mechbays than I'll ever use.
Okay, time to take my "rambling forumite" hat off. Now that I've built that wall 'o text, I need to find someone else to pay for it

Picked up the 2nd ERLL and the Ferro for the 9K, and figured that if I shaved some armor, dropped a half ton of ammo and a JJ, I could cram in 5 extra SHS, including 4 in the legs for extra cooling in the water. (Been a long time since I've done that on an IS mech)
It's worked surprisingly well, with the heat-friendly Gauss and judicious use of single laser fire when it's getting toasty. had several 500-damage games too, somehow.
That makes 2 Victors I'm running with SHS now.

It's not that I'm planning to keep them that way, but it's pretty workable for now.
Still a lot of work to do with them though. Between saving for a big XL engine for one of them (9K, maybe), buying the 9S, upgrading to Endo and maybe Ferro, and paying the DHS tax on all of them (I don't think I can get away with SHS on the 9S), I'm looking at 18-19 million c-bills yet.
Saving priorities: VTR-9S+upgrades 10-ish million; DHS tax on 2 more VTRs 3 million; monster XL, 5.5-ish million.
Yep, plenty of fun to be had yet, before I can even consider that ClanTech light or even (gasp) modules.
I'm good with that, it's good to have goals

I'm going to drop tags, for a "serial loyalist" tour to snag some reward mechbays. I'll be out a few months.
When I get back, I'm gonna pay double my invite fee. I'm planning that because I like you guys and this challenge, and I want to be supportive of the invites we need to send out to welcome new folks.
To that end, I'm also (almost) emptying my pockets on the way out the door (the system only allows increments of 10k now

Speaking of mechs, I'm 18,000 xp past basics on my SHS dakka-troll VTR-9B (UAC5+AC5+AC2). I'm working the arm and twist basics for the SHS-Gauss-2ERLL VTR-9K.
Mech Plan: DHS upgrade for 9K, save for VTR-9S along with its DHS and Endo upgrades. After that, in no particular order, XL engine and an extra ERLL for the 9K, and/or a DHS upgrade for the 9B. Whichever feels more helpful at the time will come first.
Reiterating: I'm not quitting. I'm very much still involved and interested, and I'll keep posting updates here, because I'm still working the challenge. That's why I'm posting this out here in plain sight. I think it's useful to document our work and progress for each other. It's part of the fun.

I'm basically running a bunch of errands, and I'll be back with goodies to share. When I get back, I'm unlikely to be going anywhere.

I know, right? I did a stint as a battalion lead in a previous unit on my main, so I'm still a bit too familiar with the system.
For informational purposes, it's in the "FP" tab, under the "Unit" submenu on the left, the "coffer management" selection. We can all go look at the balance in there, any time we want.
That shows the current coffer balance (now 6,700,000 c-bills), and shows the donation clicky-thingy. It used to be a type-your-own field, pre-Phase 3. Now it's an arrow, that goes up in 10k increments.
I totally gamed it to round it off as far as I could

Edit, derp: As to recruitment fees, they're 50K per member in the unit, at the time the invite ticket is purchased. So, at 40 members, the fee's 2 million.

K. Well, my alt acct is currently inactive (my main acct basically is too) so I would say the XO or CO should boot me from the unit if they haven't already to save the fee, and I'll pay the fee when and if MWO ever gets interesting enough for me to play again.

NP go out and freelance for a bit. As far as i know we will still be here. Looking forward to a 12 Victor wave in FW. need your gun man

as for the coffers, right now we are at 6700,000 cbills or enough for 3 more recruits. thank you for your generous donation
Bishop Steiner
I an't about to boot you over a measly 50k cbills

as far as booting inactive members, I don't know right now. it seems that there are only a handful still actually doing the challenge. as i have no way of knowing who is and who is not active, other then the folks who post here, i don't think at this time, with summer in full swing thru much of the player base and the world championships getting up to full speed, it would be prudent to boot anybody.
and now a word from out Recruitment Dept
(in that pleading kind of voice NPR uses during pledge drives)
As we know the life blood of this unit is members and to get more members it cost about 2 mil Cbills per invite. so if you have a few extra cbills rattling around feel free to donate them to the cause...
leave you with is great video
