Beautiful Mechs, and very little Fog.

It seems like I found the sweet spot where the Mechs are pretty, the terrain is pretty, and I can see more than 3 feet in front of me. It's a shame that I have to run the game on reduced graphics settngs so I can cut through the fog and see the graphics...

Everyone in the comp scene has been running settings like that since forever.

I only set the texture to high and keep everything low. I do miss the beautiful lighting though.

The beautiful lightng effects would be awesome for a single player campaign... Where I can take my time to enjoy the view and know that the AI is going to see me through all the small bushes and stuff no matter what since their "view" is not obstructed by things that cannot block bullets.

But when I play against people, I know that they are deliberately making it easier to see me by reducing their graphics levels, so I have to follow suit in order to not really hamper myself.

I know that Fog is being added to discourage sniping, but the fact that you can bypass Fog by turning the graphics down is a turn-off to me. It's like PGI is telling me that I have to choose between a very pretty game or a fun game, regardless of my hardware's processing capacity.

If someone shoots me through my fog, I go ahead and shoot them right back.

Until they implement the reticule not changing colors unless targeted I'm not even considering lowering my graphics for anyone.

You shoot them back without a target lock when you cannot see them? How does that work?

He follows the lasers back to source and attempt to shoot that position.

So, blindly firing into their presumed ranks at someone behind partial cover...

See, I would rather just see them and shoot them.

I might be wrong, but the fog effects seem to be tied to Environment. Turn that to Low and it minimizes the visual crap, at least in my brief testing on Viridian Bog in the Testing Grounds. Turning up Particles and Effects didn't seem to make the fog any worse, but maxing Environment made everything cloudy again.

For Fog, yes, you can have particles and effects higher... For AC bullets and LRMs exploding all over your cockpit, though, I have to turn particles and effects down to reduce the explosion effects so I can return fire effectively...

I wish there was a way to force-normalize the effects of explosions and Fog on people, but I am afraid it would be forced-high-fog all the time. At least I can turn it down, which is nice, but it's too bad that other features have to go down along with it.

Fog of War... Reminds me more of Command and Conquer than Mechwarrior.

You spot them with your reticule. Just keep strafing a chainfire lightsaber line of ERLL around the map in a grid until it turns red, then alpha until it doesn't.

My old PC recently died, and I purchased some shiny new Skylake hardware to replace it. I went from 12-20 FPS with everything on low to 100 with everything on high.

Upon falling from the dropship on Caustic and suddenly being blinded by the glare from a magnificent high-def sunset, i'll admit to a single, manly tear appearing briefly in the corner of one eye before being sucked back in my the ever vigilant forces of my testosterone.

An enemy then fired a laser into the terrain just in front of my face and blinded the hell out of me with some very impressive looking burned dirt.

I spent the next minute or so arriving at the same conclusion you did. Even having effects on medium obscures too much.

And OMG playable frame rates are DYNAMITE for my aim. Who would have thunk it?
