What can I best do with an ever increasing mech XP? Can it be sold to give me some money?

Nope. You can use MC to convert spare mech xp to Gxp once your mastered. I would wait till there's a conversion sale personally.

You can get some XP by launching a UAV (consumable) to detect the enemy team (best if a lot of enemies are there).
Otherwise stick to your lance (the green things) and soak up some bonuses for being in a group. Try not to get killed early by sticking close to cover and frequently checking your mini-map to see if your team is moving away from you.
You can buy Premium Time to get a 50% C-bill and XP bonus. Champion Mechs (C) have a 30% XP bonus.
