Fellow Pilots:

In your consideration of my thoughts, please note that I'm just a rookie with less than a k of matches under my belt and still honing my limited abilities in numerous builds, 99% in skirmish, cap and conquest. One thing is certain, however. When I'm assigned to a team, my teammates can be sure that, for what little it's still worth, I will do my best with and for them. I'm still often the first smoldering pile of scrap metal you'll pass in battle (just smile, wave and say “Hi Ostrea”). Spectating my valiant and often highly skilled teammates has become one of my favorite past-times. Even though I suffer with them every time they take damage, they often still teach me a valuable thing or two.

Unfortunately, there's one thing that really burns my butt: More often than not, there is some teammate in a beautiful mech just sitting at the drop zone, likely afk.

This much I already know:
* Technical/connection issues can sometimes cause this.
* I'm a busy guy in the real world. Hence I know that this is “just a game”, that an urgent diaper change of someone's kid must take priority, a very important call/message must be answered, somebody might knock on the door, a natural disaster could occur, or a sudden, really urgent “call by nature” must be obeyed with a dash to the bathroom.
* AFK-kills are cheap and easy stat boosters. Unfortunately, any victory that includes enemy-AFKs can only be “sweet and sour” because those AFKs might well have been game-changers.

Nevertheless, I'm increasingly suspecting that many of those AFKs may actually just be little deadbeats, simply off doing or playing something else while their team fights to the death.

Are my suspicions unfounded?
If not unfounded, what could be done to detect afk-deadbeat-patterns and then penalize such clowns?
MWO-player-stats are remarkably concise. If not unfounded, how likely is it that MWO-mgmt would act on deadbeats at some point? Would they even care since some deadbeats might actually give them a few coveted $ for stuff-purchases from time to time.
Lastly, would/does an AFK-deadbeat suck up C-bills on a team win?

Thanks for your consideration.

If you use the tab and go to player screen you can click on the players name and report for non-participation.

Always look at the ping though. If you see ping of 0 it is a connection issue and you should not report

People do forget that they are queuing and off to do something else, like watching videos in full screen. Every game at least one guy who does that, and it is usually the 100 tonner.

You can report them for being AFK, so if they do that over a long period of time, they will be hopefully penalized.

AFK guys will only get 25K C-Bills and some salvage C-Bills in a win.

1 - no pgi probably won't do anything about them. at the most remove event rewards if they were afk a lot.
2 - your rewards are your rewards, just figure that if that guy wasn't afk he'd just rambo charge into the enemy and leave you down a mech within a minute anyhow.

Only report when someone does it regulary please. Everybody might have to go afk once in a while.

I doubt people who AFKs once in a while will be punished.

+1 Right click on the player's name and you get a bunch of different options.

Report everyone. PGI has the data to make an informed decision. If you're legit, then you're safe.

AFK, read: no match score, win or loose, go down in PSR.

Well, report it every time - they won't ban or penalize for a single occurrence. What they *can* do is build a history if it gets reported *every* time.
