Dear Russ, can you do me a favor. Please review the map and game mode vote after some time in game. It sounds great and looks like a improvement for the most players, but I'm not convinced that it really works as intended.

One big concern of the voting system is that 12 man groups can bring a spacial team and have at least a 50% chance to get the map type they want or need, so they get an additional advantage. Also I guess some maps like terra therma will never be picked or drop below 1% and the global favors will be played more often then they should. Simple example for this 60% like A and 40% like B because 60% are the majority map A will be played 100% the time. Over all I think the map voting will have a negative effect and not the positive that we hope to get.

For me personally it will be a step back because I only play one game mode and after 5 time any new map I'm happy to drop on alpine or terra therma. The new maps have one feature in common that make them for me not enjoyable, except from river city all new maps (since mining collective) use bad vision as feature that I absolutely don't like. And it goes that far that low graphic setting are "recommend" so for me 50% of he maps are ok but I guess I'll see them seldom in future.

Game mode voting is difficult as well, we are used to have the option to disable the mode we don't like also the first attempt to change this freedom wasn't well received. The reason for this is that the player have to play maps and game modes they don't like more often then necessary. I understand the idea behind it, but there could be a better way to improve the match maker. Like it was indicated on the first attempt. Try to respect the vote from the preselection and allow the MM to drop this restriction. Saying, let the MM group by game mode selection and only when there are not enough player fill it up with other players, so you have a greater chance to get your game mode.

Something similar can be done with the map selection. Let the player preselect maps they like, let the MM try to group this player or calculate chances for this group with a minimum and maximum chance for every map. It is important that even when there is a 23 to 1 map favorite the outsider have to have a good chance to get his map, the reason for this the outsider will be forced to play many maps the he don't like while the majority almost every time get the map they want.

Sure it is important to satisfy the majority but it is also very important to keep the minority "alive" in fact they need stronger rights and a special protection otherwise they get overruled by the majority and in this case probably left the game.

Thanks for listening and please have a careful look if it work as intended.

Think of this, a pilot wouldn't take a laser boat into Terra Therma. If you take a mech that can handle it, vote for it. If enough people vote for it and it goes through, you have an advantage. Not everyone runs hot builds, however converse to this idea, the better thing to do would be to force all maps an equal bias of selection. That would require mechs to be built to handle high heats, thus performance would be more average across all temperature and pure laser builds would be far more rare.

There is a phrase in German

Quote

Das Gegenteil von gut ist gut gemeint.
(The opposite of good are good intentions / meant to be good.)

This is a common answer when someone did something wrong and excuse himself with "but I had a good intention"

I know this suppose to be something good and I understand the reasons but for me it will become wores. ATM I get around 50% of enjoyable maps. Sometimes I get a few in a row and have a good evening, sometimes I start with a bad map and just want to hit alt+f4

I just can say it again, I know there is no bad intention, but I fear there is for some (to many) people a bad outcome.

I know how attractive this sounds, but it's going to be a total failure and we will end playing most matches in a few maps causing an stale game play that will in the long run fed up a lot of people. This has long term reaching consequence in regards to player population, a serious concern for a game like this.

In a game where the learning curve is high, I don't think letting the players make their matches more easy at the expense of variety will help the game in any way.

I, for one, have no problem with all of the maps and particularly enjoy the abundance of cover and variety of approaches on Terra Therma, regardless of heat or what build I brought.

Map voting sucks, I seem to be playing the same two or three maps over and over which in and of itself isn't terrible, I like the OLD maps they are not as cluttered as the new maps. However I would never choose a game mode other than Skirmish and am now forced to play two game modes I do not enjoy. Developers, end this this senseless experiment and find something better to do with your time like cleaning up the River City, Forest, Caustic Vally maps.

Since the patch and more than a hundred matches I have seen conquest 3 times all in EU servers. Seen caustic once and Terra three times. The vast majority are in Frozen city , Crimson and Alpine.

For a game thats repetitive to begin with its become vastly more repetitive. FO4 ships Tuesday and I ship out.

I have no faith in Russ getting a handle on this game. When the IGP split happened I thought for a while things would get better and it actually seemed like it but those days are long gone. One disaster after another now.

Maybe if they were open on their intentions I might keep some faith but I don't do twitter or Brown Nosing NGNG and PGI doesn't come here except to be vauge when it suits them.

MWO has become a sociopathic twitch shooting extravaganza. Nothing more.

It shows how sad this game is getting, when I both like and agree with all of what Mudhut has said since last patch, that really is about as low as it can go for me ;)

It's the scarcity of votes for less favored maps and game modes that causes problems. If you have a Spider setup for conquest you need to play many, many, maps until you draw conquest. For every match you play with that Spider waiting for conquest, you play at a disadvantage and so does the team you play for.

We have always had the possibility of drawing a hot map with a hot build. At least we could choose the right build for the game mode.

Well unlike you I don't like playing skirmish. But, it's only been 100% that so far.
